Probably could do with an update. I just need to collect what we've done recently. We've replaced the ill-fitting 6 cylinder wiring harness with an American Autowire classic update kit. We also installed an American Autowire torque converter lock-up kit for the 700r4. We're in the process of upgrading the fuel system with a Boyd Welding EFI tank and FiTech fuel injection. I ordered a governor tuning kit for the 700r4, as the 2 through 4 shifts have been stacked since day one. We should be able to tune the shifts both part throttle and WOT to make better use of the engine's power. I'll throw up some pictures to go with the update.
This is just a pic from a day the kid let me drive it to work. Attachment 1813733 The tank and the FiTech unit getting aquatinted. Attachment 1813737 The Boyd Welding tank about to go up for it's first test fit. Attachment 1813734 After drilling the first hole for the bed fill, and it lined up with the filler in the tank!! Attachment 1813735 The filler cap sitting in it's place, looks pretty sano if you ask me. I do wish the filler would have landed over those scratches in the bed wood... oh well. Attachment 1813736 |

Re: Old Girl (aka Project Underhaulin)
I promised my better half that I would give up CTC for HRPT. But I might be able to swing going for a few days, I'll have to see when it gets closer.

I think we're going to give these headers a try, hoping they will tuck nicely up into the frame. Flowtech 31500FLT

Looks good Buck!
I think I'm going to try Doug's D375Y Tri-Y's, they seem to tuck up nicely, and give clearance for the Z-bar when I switch back to a stick. ;) |
Re: Old Girl (aka Project Underhaulin)
^^^ I can vouch for the Doug’s as far as fit & finish. I have them in my ‘63 Falcoon with a EFI 347 and they fit like a glove.

Swapped the small tail lights for the correct units, the small ones didn't have the correct harness so they were constantly having issues with brake and signal lights not working. We like the look for the original style better...

They look good. Sorry I didn't get to see you at CTC.

We've been putting some miles on the Old Girl but it's time to get some climate control. We're working on installing the Vintage Air Kit we purchased through Matt's Classic Bowtie Parts. We've got quite a bit done but had one setback so far. The existing heater return fitting was for 3/4" hose and the Vintage Air kit uses 5/8" hose for the supply and return for the heater. Luckily our local parts house was able to get one today, so that is installed as well as the heater hoses. We're working on finishing up the wiring and the A/C hoses, hope to them gathered up tomorrow night. Here are some pictures of our progress.

I'm proud of the work my boy (C10punk)has been putting in the last few days, from crimping a/c hoses to soldering terminals on the 1/0 wire for new battery cable and engine/chassis ground straps he's done very well.

Re: Old Girl (aka Project Underhaulin)
Nice. I sure do like the aftermarket style side vents over the factory balls. It was a pain to cut on the bend of my 70.

Picked up an old friend yesterday, was the motorvation intended for the project we called Shiro, took a day trip over to Louisiana and bought it back from Bowtie468. The final plan is still unknown but this little peach is going in this truck one way or another!

Re: Old Girl (aka Project Underhaulin)
Nice! I checked out that suspension setup on HRPT last year and I was impressed with it. I'll be looking forward to hearing your opinions on it after it is back on the road. I know of a few others that are thinking about using it also.
So did the LS swap take a back seat until after the suspension upgrade, or will you be doing it at the same time? |

I have a feeling there will be a lot of people wanting to go for a ride in it for HRPT, including me!

Re: Old Girl (aka Project Underhaulin)
I've been eyeing that suspension setup for my project's future. Really curious to see how it rides/handles after. Details! :)
