My son is 13 and loves cars and trucks. Says he wants to go to school to be a mechanic. Occassionally I can get him to help me out on my projects, but his interest tapers off fast. He still doesn't like the louder tools, like grinders and the air tools. I'll keep working with him. My wife and I both agree, that boy has a lot of quit in him.;)

As far as your parenting goes, anyone who spends time with their kid and isn't abusing them is doing something positive. Having confidence and being willing to try new things at an early age is a huge advantage. Put the kid to work.

I like the truck so far. The wheels are nice. The colors remind me of a rendering for the Tri-Pro truck I saw and I like it. I was wondering why you didn't TIG some of the sheetmetal.

That's too cool that your son is out there with you. If he can weld half as good as you did on my headers, he's already light years ahead of me!:lol: Truck is looking good.

Thanks guys! He is truly my best friend! It is hard with the line in the sand of be a friend at father at the same time!

Hgs_notes, the reason I did not use my tig on cab is because of all the weld thru primer behind most of the welds. I could have used it on the footwell tops and the cab corners butt joints and no primer but my gaps/fitment was not 100% and would have ended up with more warpage than what it was worth.

Sorry to jump in so late, but I am still learnin my way around. I would definitely not abandon the two tone. Those are great colors and retro is way in nowadays. Give thought to doing the roof in the tan along with your grill and tailgate but also give some consideration to possibly doing the lower rocker area. It will make your wheels stand out and it looks way cool.The 67/68 had a lower trim that separated the colors.A subtle third color pinstripe could replace the trim. Lookin good:metal:
BTW I will check my vehicle code book about the exhaust. I don't do alot of vehicle enforcement these days. I only stop airplanes now!

I know you've probably already heard it a hundred times but, here it goes again. Charish the time you have with your "little ones". Before you know it they are in middle school, high school and college. It sucks for me, that I was working every overtime hour I could get when mine were little (just to survive). Now my son is 15 1/2 and daughter 12 going on 18. They quickly become less dependent on their parents (well, except for cash). Enjoy it while you can! BTW, I taught my son how to weld as a wee lad too, I think he was 5 or 6. Keep it up.

How did you get your floor to align and did you put your front pillar patch over your old one or did you cut it out and replace it

I had actually replaced all the lower sheet metal, once I started digging there was nothing that could be saved. So I had to remove and replace all of the sheet on the pillar and the footwell panel.
As far as the floor aligning it fit in nice once I had trimmed about 1/8" off the front flange the full length of the floor. That got it flush with the firewall and as far as centering it fell right in with the A pillars being there. I had talked to EBfab and he suggested putting the A pillars in first to help guide the floor in. The only thing is you want o make sure if you have to replace your pillars that you take lots of measurements and get them back in to were the originals were. If you have any other question or need help let me know.

Thanks Phipp, you got that right!

Well have not been working on the truck but have had some other interesting things that have been keeping me busy. Been making some open primary belt drive covers for a local mc shop. The other cool thing that I thougth was pretty neat was had a guy ask me to weld him up a springer front end.

I am hoping to start to get back on the truck here in the new future!

Thank guys I wish those welds were some were on the truck! Oh well.

Nuke, he had the pieces copied of off a Denver chopper front end that his friend had. If it were a kit I would buy a couple weld em up and try to make some change!

Well have been busy lately and have not had to much time do work on the truck. I had off yesterday and was able to finally get the front end on my truck completely done. The PO had put a power steering box with spacers that were cut like a "c"?? The only thing I could thing of was he was not able to hold the weight of the box and bolt it in or use any type of measuring system and added them till it did not hit the frame. Made some spacers and a backing plate for a little extra strength. I know it is elementary but wanted some extra support. I have heard both sides of the story about denting the frame, the spacers and not needing any extra strength. I figured I would go for the extra insurance! Once done I had powdercoated all of them to match the frame color. Once I had it all together I was going to grease the pitman arm and realized I needed a new tube of grease for the gun. This quadruple explative is nothing more than a PITA! I fiddled around for 20 mins trying to get it in and had grease every where and could not hold the cap down and screw it on cause of the mess. Needless to say it is still sitting on the floor! I need him :sumo: to come over and fix it for good. Course you forget how much of a pain it is till you need a new tube in it!

The other thing I found out is naval jelly is nasty stuff and should not be let to sit on a foam brush for any long period of time!

sorry, I have always been a day late and a dollar short! if interested I still have the pattern and can cut one out for you. the only thing you will have to do is drill the 3 holes in the backing plate and one in the frame for the bolts that hold it on. I used 2 existing holes in the frame and then drilled the one behind the box for a extra. were you flying over yesterday, 2 different blackhawks came over and the one seem to be going slow?

I can relate to the grease gun thing. I hate changing them too. I also hate the way they always run out of grease even when the tube still has a bunch of grease still in it.
