Coming right along! :metal:

Re: Project “Learning as I Go”
I got a little more done, got the rear cab supports off, sprayed another couple coats of paint on the frame and moved the frame up into place to get welded in. The rivets in the drivers side came out really easily with the help of the air hammer. The ones on the passenger side were completely different, they didn't want to come out. Broke out the torch, heated them up a little and they popped out no problem. Still need to move the rear cab supports back, I'm thinking about just welding them in instead of bolting them. Still gotta get the frame cleaned up where they came off. It's crazy how short the frame looks compared to what it looked like originally. It looks awesome though, after I get done working I keep finding myself standing there staring at it. Feels good to be able to look at it and say "I did that"!! I helped a guy I work with move last weekend, and he gave me a thank you present, might come in handy. Here are some pics.

Bet you have more room in the garage now huh?
Looks good man! |
Re: Project “Learning as I Go”
Thanks guys! It does seem to be coming along pretty well so far. Unfortunately I have a fairly long laundry list of things that still need to be done after I get the "major" stuff out of the way, just to get it drivable again. Oh well that's part of the fun of doing this right?

Re: Project “Learning as I Go”
Yep! :metal:

Re: Project “Learning as I Go”
nice progress.

Re: Project “Learning as I Go”
Ok, so I was getting the frame all squared up and decided it would only take unhooking a few more things and I could get the cab out of the way. So basically the snowball just turned into a full on avalanche. I guess I am in the middle of a full frame off job here. Here are some pics.

Re: Project “Learning as I Go”
Yep that will happen faster than you think. Taking that cab off is the point of no return though.

Re: Project “Learning as I Go”
been there, done that.. its killer. after two and a half years, i am just now bolting my front clip back on.. new rubber mounts, painted frame, new small block 350, 700R4.. body STILL needs a lot of work.. but at least its a shorty now instead of a long bed.. 1800 dolla truck easily changes into a 18 thousand dollar truck.. hehe nice progress man :metal:

Re: Project “Learning as I Go”
Well I haven't been able to do much lately. I had to help move my mom to my sisters house in Houston, then help my brother move also. Came at a pretty good time since it was right around 100 degrees the whole time.
I got my frame welded back together but not completely reinforced yet. Since I have been helping my brother out lately he dropped a major bomb of a suprise on me (see pics below). So staying with my ADD and not completely finishing anything I have started so far I'm getting ready to start another project. This came in today... http://i681.photobucket.com/albums/v...e/SANY0184.jpg http://i681.photobucket.com/albums/v...e/SANY0186.jpg http://i681.photobucket.com/albums/v...e/SANY0187.jpg It is a 5.3 out of an 03 Tahoe with 63,000 miles on it. Can't wait to get it in (and also finish all the rest of the things i have started). :metal: Not sure how I will ever pay him back for this AWESOME gift. Thanks bro! |

Re: Project “Learning as I Go”
Got a little more done yesterday, finally cooled down a little so it was somewhat bearable in the garage. Pulled the engine, now I need to get it to a power washer and clean up the frame. So more stuff is off the truck and somehow I'm still married. I do need to get the old engine and trans out of the way though, it is big time greasy and if she gets it on her clothes walking by I'm in trouble. Here are some pics.
