Greetings from the 73-87 side of the forum. I just picked up this '50 last Saturday. Needs cab rust repair but all the repair panels (LMC) came with the deal. Later on I'll be looking for a hood and a rear fender. The truck will rest on an S-10 chassis, air ride, SBC/700R.

Working on my '48 Thriftmaster
Installed new clutch on running 216, 4 spd, new brakes, lines, fuel tank, shackles, king pins, tailgate, seat. Plan is for dropped axle and blocks, wide whites, rusty patina for now. Need a replacement for right rear fender. |
Re: Show us your projects
That looks like its a '47 not a '48. '47 was the only year, to my knowledge that had the gas tank in the bed. Either way it's a nice looking truck!!
|
Re: Show us your projects
The 47 and 48 both had the gas tank under the bed. I used to have a 48 and the tank was under the bed. As far as I know the only difference in the 47 and 48 is on the 47 the park brake was on the trans. and had a hand control then in 48 the park brake was used on the rear brakes on the rear axle. 'And the control was moved to the left by the kick panel and had a foot control.
Then in 49 the gas tank was moved inside the cab. Hope this helps. Jerry :new: |
Re: Show us your projects
Jerry
You are correct. Plus...I have the original title, door tag and bill of sale, and it states that it is a '48! They do look alike! It is funny...everyone seems to want to change their seat tanks to frame tanks, even though Chevrolet, in their infinite wisdom, put them behind the seat for many years. Thanks nickP It has alot of surface rust(patina), but very little rust thru. (floor boards) |

My daily driver, a 54 junkyard build top to bottom.
the turbo setup went 9.8 @141 in my camaro. This truck weighs 200#'s more. I haven't tuned WOT yet, roads are too cold now. It's an s10 frame with 76 granada 9" disc brake rear with 3.00 gears. Engine is a 2000 chev. 5.3 bored to 3.903= 347 cubic inch with a 4l80e trans. turrbo is a 76MM http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...R/DSCN1739.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...R/DSCN1734.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...R/DSCN1735.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...R/DSCN1736.jpg |

I don't even have a single gauge yet or my traction bars installed. I use my Tom Tom for a speedo & set the cruise control I installed out of an s10 blazer. |
Re: Show us your projects
haha.... I've got a friend out here in WA that has a super charged '05 mustang. He could use a whoopin'! But he's working on a new engine. The last time that we raced (I was in my '88) his enging and charger blew up.. :haha:... Now he is working on a new engine. I'll let you know when he is finished, so he can get his butt whooped by one of our styled trucks! :metal:

I bought 2 of the $40 ebay fans & made my own shroud. Seems good so far, it pulls air through the intercooler as well. It was tight in there for both so I only have about an inch between the two. |

Here is my 54 Chevy I've been working on it for about a year now. It is stretched 6", chopped 2.5", sectioned the front of the cab so it will tuck the running boards against the cab and raise the bed to get ride of that huge gap between the window and the bed rail.

Been replacing floors and brought home some additional parts today. 3 grills, front bumper with a good filler pan, inner fenders, and some fender braces.

Nice work Marc |
Re: Show us your projects
That COE is sick! Do you have any closeups of the image on the door? Mater of fact I think that we need some more details on both trucks. Com'on I know you want to talk about them.

Re: Show us your projects
Have my wiring harness mostly in, brake parts, master cyl., and fuel tank waiting.
Any info on seat parts would be helpful. Springs etc. Thanks http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...0/IMG_2808.jpg |

Re: Show us your projects
Man I love the COE also!
I know this build won't be for everyone ;) Here's my build. I'm building this for my wiife. I have a real nice 3 window I plan to do for myself once this is done on a Z06 Vette I've had this truck for about 10 years. My plan was to build it after my 55 BelAir. Well 6 years later my 55 is done. I built it on a C4 Vette with a LS1 6 speed and love the way it drives. So I decided on this for the truck. I sarted on in about a month ago. First two weekends I stripped the 98 C5 Vette to the frame to get it ready for the truck cab. The Vette was bumped in the front with 68k miles. Air bags didn't even deploy but it did have a salvaged title. I narrowed the frame and sat the cab on it yesterday. Started with this http://pic60.picturetrail.com/VOL172.../392977380.jpg To This http://pic60.picturetrail.com/VOL172.../393520009.jpg To the narrowed frame http://pic60.picturetrail.com/VOL172.../393654984.jpg And this so far. I will take 10'' out of the front of the bed due to the shorter wheel base of the C5 http://pic60.picturetrail.com/VOL172.../393674958.jpg http://pic60.picturetrail.com/VOL172.../393674977.jpg |
Re: Show us your projects
Tuned55, I like it, and I hope that you start a build thread on here. I've thought about trying something like that also.

I figure I better start here, new to the forum with a new project.
It's a 1951 GMC telephone truck. I'm going to install a standard bed and take the work bed and make a rolling barbeque tailer out of it. Both the truck and trailer will lay on the ground. it will make it easier to get to the hot dogs and brew. Attachment 663604 |
Re: Show us your projects
Skidmark , thats a sweet truck. I love your ida about the bbq'r. That's great. Good luck to you.
|
Re: Show us your projects
51 okie, I figured it would be a great trailer to have at an event where there would be a built in ice chest , gas grill, big stereo and storage for supplies. Pop the lawn chairs out and everybody could have a gathering place.

Re: Show us your projects
I tried earlier to post pictures of my 51 3/4 ton, after frontend and rearend conversions. Will try again,Sorry!
