I really like your build, especially the areas where you utilized all the parts from the '73. I just bought a '64 C-20 in Hesperia (the corner of Main St. and Sultana) last weekend and have plans to do something very similar to yours. I'm going to build a parts chaser, and use everything from a '79 Suburban I have stashed. I am going to have to find some parts for the '64 like headlight bezels, park lights, taillights, rear window (small), and grille. If you know somebody in the desert who has some extra parts, let me know.

I believe we met at Farmer Boys last year. We talked about airbag suspensions, and we were standing next to my buddy's slammed '62 GMC longbed. I think I still have your business card. I was driving a '50 Chevy truck, black with lime green scallops and green steelies. That truck is now in Australia.

I'm looking forward to when the Farmer Boys cruise night starts back up. The turnout is always good, and the car quality has grown by leaps and bounds in the last few years.

If you're interested in getting rid of the Cragars, I might be interested.

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up

Today I notched the frame on a 57 sedan delivery that I installed a 396 BB Chevy. I already notched the drivers side for clearance with the new power steering box. I also had to notch the right side for clearance of the exhaust. The guy that installed the 396 before did it all wrong. I installed side motor mounts, and a rear transmission cross mount also. Any way when I cut the frame on the right side I found that a rat or mouse was living in the frame. I started laughing, and had to share this.
Looks like he was a pack rat. :haha:

I guess he liked shinny things to, and was a party animal. Notice the St Patties Day party hat. He liked nuts also

I had to take out all that crap because while welding , it would have caught fire. Here's the after pictures of both sides. Man that Big Block is BIG. :metal:

I even had to remake the clutch cross shaft, and bell housing mount. The clearance was really close. It had to be in the middle of the exhaust and the steering box. And the mount had to clear the oil pressure lines, and sensor.

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up

I'm installing power disc brakes, power steering, rebuild & restore the front part of the frame, and rewire the whole car. The steering column was a challenge because it was so tight, and had also cut the column, and shaft. I had to make a lower mount because the one I ordered didn't work with the big block, and 4 speed. What a PITA, but they are paying for it. :metal:

I think he moved because he was out of room, and needed more space. The little wennie never gave me his new number. He was a real party animal. :haha: :haha: :haha:

This whole week I only worked on customers cars 2 days. I replaced the clutch pac on my bike and did errands the other days. So today, Friday I'm working on customers cars only 1/2 day. Crap you really sound like my wife now. Do I have to answer to you too. :dohh::haha:

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up

I think I scored today. I was looking for used 275/60x15 tires for the rear of the 65. I found these on Craigs List for $200 with wheels and tires. Two tires ain't so good, but the wheels are like new. They are American Eagles, with 255/60X15, and 225/60X15 for the front. What do ya think? I know everyone wants me to keep the Craigers, but everybody has them, like Torque Thrust's. They're Billet rims, but at least they are 15"s. What counts is I like them. But want to hear your comments. BTW, I ended up paying only $175.00

http://belair.smugmug.com/Other/1965...78_63x75-L.jpg

So that means the Centerlines, and the Craigers are up FOR SALE.

Strodder 02-20-2011 09:41 PM

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up

If I keep the Craigers, I would want to install White Walls. But that's way over the budget. Especially, trying to find big WW tires for 16" wheels.
