Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build
Here is the deal with designing a truck, you need to take into account all aspects of the build to get the look you want. Once you start modifying parts or stances it is going to be like a train, one car moves the next, one mod effects the next. If you keep those wheels and bag it then you truck weight will be sitting on the wheel wells when the tires bottom out on the wells. A bag system is going to be more expensive than some dropped spindles. The whole system has to work even when air'd down. If you lost pressure while on the freeway and your truck came down on the wheel wells it could be the end of a nice truck. Think through the whole process and don't go the cheap route on suspension.

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build
no no this will be purely bags with valves to air them manually no compressors or tanks at this point at all. (budget and preference). But yes I have that fear of losing a bag going down the freeway I'll be getting the best bags I can get for this time being so that I won't be worried about rips or tears or leaks.

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build
I think I remember you saying that you were going to drive it at ride height then at the shows air down. Looks like you'll get about another 1.5 inches of air down before it bottoms out on the wells.
The truck is looking great and it will just get better but I dont like to do things twice. My comments are purely in response to you wanting a show stoping stance when aired down, and your wheel tire combo is going to prevent that. |
Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build
Yes I get what your saying on the wheel and tire it's an awesome look to have the steamroller effect going on but after that it's useless at this height basically and that's very annoying so I gotta do something different and I've wanted to try bags I should have a price on them today or tomorrow from my coworker so we shall see

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build
Have you thought a out just buying two different new front wheels that are backspaced differently? Smaller wheels like you have are relatively inexpensive and would fix all or most of your problems. Or don't you want to do that?

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build
I have but I'd prefer not to change the wheel and tire combo at this point I know I'm being stubborn and all but I'll be smarter on the next build these trucks are completely brand new to my dad and I as far as getting things to work right do we learn as we go and there's
Some mistakes not all though Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build
Here is the writeup I'll do on the install of my headlights first off Mike's Chevy parts off of ebay and here in California has these lights they run about 68$ shipped to my house packed very tightly and made sure not to be broken on shipping very quick and easy to talk to about questions. they plug right into the three plug original harness and they use a power and ground cable to splice into the marker light harness very simple painless install so here are the pictures
http://i1111.photobucket.com/albums/...g?t=1343001734 Grabbed these splices for the install no issues at all http://i1111.photobucket.com/albums/...g?t=1343001711 don't mind our p.o. spaghetti wiring but the clips snap over the ground and hot wire that run to the marker lights and then the it simply plug into the back with the (pigtail? I'm no wiring genius trust me) connector and viola! http://i1111.photobucket.com/albums/...g?t=1343003113 simple clean and almost unnoticeable until up close http://i1111.photobucket.com/albums/...g?t=1343001641 and finally just the halos lit they light when my alarm goes off and are turned on with running lights and headlights on very slick setup I must say for the six days of research I did http://i1111.photobucket.com/albums/...g?t=1343001694 |
Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build
Oh yeah! Paint turned out real nice!! I really like those headlights too, I want to get some similar. I seen others use the 07 Jeep Wrangler lights on 67-68s so I was thinking of buying those but I will have to check out Mike's where you got yours. THat is a great price. Later

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build
Thanks Dan I'm just curious about the harness and how it fits with me I just need new headlights bezels (one tab broke) and longer screws and they'll fit fine

Do you have a link for those head lights? I'm not that familiar with e-bay and couldn't find anything when I searched "Mike's Chevy parts". I would love to grab a pair for my 68.
*edit-- Sorry. I just saw where you posted the information.:dohh: Jumped the gun with excitement. |

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build
I don't mind LED's so much (I do however hate the ignorant riceheads that run around with bright blue ones or yellow makes me wanna shake a baby) but these lights i was impressed very subtle look and a ton cleaner with much more function
