Re: What did you do to your Suburban Today?

A little background on the suspension. Bagged all around with 2.5 drop spindles with front and rear sway bars. All of the additions made it handle better than stock, but sometimes it could get a little loose around curves or when caught in a little grove in the roads and when the roads are wet and the truck was lowered a lot. When we lower these trucks to much the rear end will pull to the drivers side because of the stock pan hard bar being bolted to the axle and the driver side frame. It would get a little scary sometimes, more so when I am running my narrower winter wheels and tires. So yes, this keeps the track straighter which helps everything (sway bars) to work so much better. I highly recommend adding a long one if you are bagged or very low. I hope this answers your questions. |
Re: What did you do to your Suburban Today?
Installed a new Pioneer radio (with Bluetooth), new chrome center vent (real easy to change while radio is out of the way), remounted wiper delay switch to better location under the dash. I'm ready for cruising season to start!!!

Re: What did you do to your Suburban Today?
When I installed the drop kit on my Sub it came with the longer bar. Glad I installed it.

Re: What did you do to your Suburban Today?
Finally got the steering column "guts" back together (again). Replaced the signal parts and upper bearing a second time after pinching the purple wire on first replacement and darn near burning up the 'burb. Also replaced the headlight switch (I hate that design). Pretty much the same as the '57 I restored. Spent more than an hour vacuuming. There's a lot of carpet in the 'burb compared to either of my pickups.

Remflex Header Gaskets and Extreme Bend Tow Hooks

Tired of blowing through header gaskets so decided to give these Remflex gaskets a try. Also bolted up the pair of extreme tow hooks I picked up from another board member a while ago

Those tow hooks!

Rear Extreme Bend Tow Hooks

I just sourced a set of these for the back, need to do some drilling and reinforcement but they are a perfect complement to the front hooks!

Re: What did you do to your Suburban Today?
Last week, my low beams went out...again. I had already replaced the dimmer switch so I picked up a couple headlights. During the troubleshooting, I found one of the tabs broke off the headlight, but the it was really a poor connection at the dimmer causing intermittent lights.
I've also been having troubles with my electric fan switch...again. While I was testing the switch vs temp, I noticed one fan didn't come on at all. So, I ended replacing one of them too. The new fan switch seems to be working better...who knows for how long :waah: |

It's that time of year...Saturday, I spent a couple hours and a couple gallons of gas recharging the AC. Unfortunately, I think this is may have to happen again before the year is out. It's the first time I successfully did it myself though, so that's a personal accomplishment. It was blowing 40deg this morning on the way to work. :)
Sunday, I got a load of sod to beautify suburban-ia. Poor kids at Home Depot couldn't believe I used the burb to haul sod. I like it because of its utility. I can use it like a truck, it is my daily driver, load the family for trip and/or put it in a car show. :metal: |

I have two 383 strokers and eventually, one will go into this '72 GMC. For now, it's sitting outside without a hood. |

Re: What did you do to your Suburban Today?
Love the old school brush guard on Cupcake.

Re: What did you do to your Suburban Today?
That brush guard on cupcake was given to me by the original owner!! He payed $40 for it in 71!
|
Re: What did you do to your Suburban Today?
Too cool! I couldn't resist. I had to look up how much that would be today. $231. A pretty good deal even if you didn't know it would last 45 plus years.
