I did it guys! With the help of my dad we got the cab flipped down. It's been quite a while since it was sitting like this. I'm beyond excited to be past that milestone. I've been working on finishing up a few things on the floor. Then I can get the doors off the truck and get them fitted up on here and get to work on the rockers and cab corners. Again beyond excited for this guys! Thanks for hanging in there. :lol:

Made it back into the shop tonight so I could carry on welding any remaining holes in the floor and stripping the paint off. I plugged the gas tank holes and welded a few holes from alignment screws shut. I was also looking at the bucket seat brackets for the drivers seat. It looks like I'm missing a piece or two. I'm not sure how readily available parts are so I'm considering just building some brackets of my own. (If anyone has any input about parts I'd be interested) I'm not even sure what I would all need. I'm hoping to get the seats and console all figured out so that I can officially be done with the floor. I still have all the rear bucket bracket mounts to drill and install but I'm not sure exactly where they go without the passenger brackets. I've heard they are available aftermarket but haven't really looked into it yet. Again if anyone has info on that I'd be greatful. Thanks guys.

Got a little bit of free time last night and made it into the shop. I've been quite busy lately with a side job I've been working with a buddy. Once that is completed, I'm hoping to be back on this thing a little more regularly with winter setting in. I also ended up hacking up my hand pretty good at the side job so I had about 3 weeks of taking it easy while that healed. I'm going to include a picture of my hand so if you don't like that sort of thing, proceed with caution. :lol:

Last night I decided that I will build my own bucket seat brackets so I squared up off the bench seat holes and drilled for the inner rear seat mounts. I also made a fuel filler delete plate and got that welded up. Soon I'll be removing the front body panels from the truck and getting ready for rockers and cab corners. :metal:

That looks terrible man. I did something similar a while back on the truck. Takes forever to heal. And gloves only make it worse.

Thanks man, I'm pretty happy with the plate. I think my welding is finally coming around which is good considering I'll be welding things that actually get seen soon.

Well hey what do you know, I found some time and got something accomplished. The cowl has been removed and boy was that not a fun task!:lol: I will be doing some modifying to the passenger side where the blower fan sits as I will no longer need it. I am going with the vintage air setup and so I think I will turn the pull vents into speaker boxes. I hope my plan works out. Here come the pictures...the last one is my new daily driver.:metal:

Thats a bunch of work indeed... How many spotweld cutters did you go through? Congratulations on the nice new ride! I hope to step up one day also but my 05 GMC is still too nice for me to want a change. If it aint broke don't fix it. ;)

I only broke one spotweld cutter so that was alright. Thanks, I am very much enjoying the new ride. Especially the heated Seats and steering wheel considering we are at -30°C before wind this morning.:waah:

Sounds like a rescue mission is in order, do I need to bring a flatbed and get you out of there?! Plenty of room in Texas. I just let the dog out to do her business and she didn't stay long at +42*, probably close to the average winter early morning temperature.:ito:

Just a little bit of late night surgery tonight. :lol: I am probably going to be deemed crazy for this but it had to happen. I've never been a fan of things been not symmetrical so I have decide to cut out the inset on the passenger side where the blower fan sits. I will be re constructing it to look like the drivers side. This in turn means my cowl will need modifying but what the heck, I think it will be worth it! Have a good one everyone.

And the firewall is looking much more symmetrical. Took me a bit to make the piece. I like the way it's looking. I had to use my dad's shrinker to get the rounded corner to lay flat, man is that a pretty wicked tool!:metal:

I finished with the firewall extension piece, it's all welded in and ground down. I went back to my dad's tonight and played around with the metal stretcher this time and ended up creating this beauty. (Pics to follow) :lol:
With a little bit more massaging and holding my tongue just right, it should fit.

Now I want to go back and change my firewall design. All that extra space inside the cab has to be a good thing! I wonder if it will make the AC install any easier? (I've never installed a vintage air kit in a c10 before, so I don't know if that would be prime real estate or not.

I have never installed a vintage air unit either but they do look fairly tight up in that corner so hopfully it helps a little.

More firewall smoothing progress over the last few days. I was wondering how others are getting their wiring harness into the engine bay without coming through the firewall. Is there normally a bulkhead of sorts involved when going through the kick panel area? I'm trying to figure that all out befor I re-install the cowl panel.

The passenger side of the firewall is now fully shaved. Next will be the drivers side which will be a bit more interesting I think. I've still got to figure out where and how to get my wiring into the engine bay without coming through the firewall. I may just have to order up a wiring kit from American Autowire with the tax refund this year.;) That way I can get that part figured out before I go closing in my cowl panel.

Kronald, great metal work man, looking fantastic. And before you go spend all that money on AA harness(which is awesome if you do get it). You can go with the universal from speedway a lot cheaper and use something like these cordgrip bulkhead connectors to hide the wires. If I had known about these I would have went this route because I modified the heck out of my AA harness.... You could hide these in the kick panel area coming out via the fenders or under the rockers, or whatever. I might use them in my door jams when i install my power windows/locks/stereo etc.

Thanks for all the info! I like the look of that flex conduit. Also that harness is alot cheaper! You probably just saved me about $400.

I was at it again tonight. Did some more surgery on the firewall in an attempt to get it looking more symmetrical and clean up the clutter. I think it will look pretty darn good once it has been all welded up and ground down. I had to cut a very small piece of the thick plate that supports the booster and column ect to achieve this. I do not think that it will affect the integrity in any way.

I figured this way I would never have to worry about my 396 valve covers ever hitting that section of the firewall as I believe that is a common problem? Also my perfectionism is making me do crazy things. :crazy:

Hey guys, I was working on my firewall again today and I just hit a milestone with this cab. I've officially burned through one whole 10 lb roll of mig wire.:lol: I also got the rest of my most recent mod all welded up and ready for grinding. I'm very happy that I did this, IMO it just looks so much better. Have a good one!

It really does take the clean firewall look a step further. I want to do it to my cab now that I see how uniform it can be. It really is the one spot that becomes problematic. The gained real estate in the back of the engine bay is not lost real estate in the foot well area inside the cab. Its a win win other than another day or so in the build process.:chevy:

I do agree 100% with you. The only way I could ever see it being a problem is if your running a manual transmission as there would be no place for the clutch. Then again I'm sure if a guy really wanted to, it could be done.
