So Here is some good news!
Picked up a power steering set up on the local classifieds for 35 bucks. I am really excited about it but i realized that I may have to do some trimming to get it in there. Do any of you guys have this problem? |
Re: 67 C20 LB Conversion to C10 SB Fleet.
Did you get the brackets too?

What's it out of?

Re: 67 C20 LB Conversion to C10 SB Fleet.
I had to trim my core support mount bracket so that the power steering gear box would bolt up. I also had to dimple my frame http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=286089&page=5 post# 121

Still plugging away on the frame.
So since I last posted there has been a few changes. I decided to get rid of the re enforcement plate that I was originally trying to keep. It was just too many plates to bolt together. I did have to cut the one down to make a shim so to say for the brace just behind the rear diff. I also snagged the bracket off my half ton frame so that the track bar would work right as the one on the C20 was different and at a different angle. So enjoy the pics. Oh I should say that I picked up some gently used tires for the back for 80 bucks. I thought it was a good score. |
Re: 67 C20 LB Conversion to C10 SB Fleet.
[/QUOTEMan I see what you mean. I bet i have to do the same thing as you did. I like your frame. Is that all Porterbuilt stuff? Looks pricey! Looks nice. All my stuff is bottom of the line. I think it will do though.[/QUOTE]
I think you may also have to notch the one bumper bracket but I'm not 100% on that because I'm not that far. Yeah that's Porterbuilt, I have about $1000 in the rear suspension including the trailing arm cross member. It also came with shocks and air bags. What you have will do the job, I just went over board from my original plans:uhmk: Nate |

Yeah I already figured on that too. I had to take mine off to even get it that close. I know how its real easy to go overboard. I would if I could :metal: |

Here you go http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ighlight=power It's kinda hard to see but you can tell the core support bracket is different.

Cut The Frame
So I have a few Photos of my frame. I really should have taken one while it was in half. But I have some of the process of fitting and welding it up if you can make it out, they probably all look the same. I will say that this time around cutting down the frame has gone about ten times faster. The frame off square 1/16" which I would say is pretty good. It seems to have straightened out some in the rear where it use to have a height difference of about 1/4" but now I am glad to report that is almost exactly the same. So far I am super excited about it. If I can get this done I can get the bed and eventually The motor and cab since I am planning on driving it around this spring and summer. |

Nice build, the more I see lowered trucks the more I want one. I've been following this one and I hope you are driving it by spring.

Well today I was going to try to get as much done as possible but then I ran out of oxygen with my cutting torch and that kind of stopped me in my tracks. And there's no places open on Saturday to exchange. But I do have a pic of what I have done to modify my rear shock mounts, remember this is a budget build. I also got all of the front end off my other frame and into the shop so I can start putting it on the new frame. I also took the old transmission cross member out today. I was also going to get the welds cleaned up on the frame today but I also am out of grinding wheels so I had to run to the store. So I guess there's always Monday to get something done.

Low buck build or not its still is smart to use a peice that is going to work just as good as one you could buy.

Re: 67 C20 LB Conversion to C10 SB Fleet.
So Its been a while! I haven't had any time to do anything with my truck. But I passed all of my classes this semester so i'm happy. I did start to put the front end back together. I put in the upper and lower ball joints and then realized that one of the boots on the lower ball joints is way to big. So now i have to wait for that to come in or i would have most of it back together. I realize I am not going to get it on the road any time soon. I am too poor. I will just have to keep plugging away at it. Sorry no pics but i ill get some soon.

Glad to see your still at it, I thought you had given up. My build is also taking alot longer than I thought.

Get some degreaser roll it out side on some moving dollys and pressure wash it then spray it with some Rustolem or it you can swing it get some satin black automotive paint and call it a day it. the paint will make the whole job look better.

So I managed to get a few things done yesterday. I got the rest of the rear of the chassis together, the shock mounts and the shocks themselves on. So I went ahead and put the bed on the truck. I finished relocating the rear cab mount. Then I cleaned up the frame where the cab sits and sprayed it black. I kinda wish i would have done this to the whole frame. But its all together and I don't really feel like taking it all down to do that when this is only temporary until I save the money to powder coat and then do the truck done. I just want to drive it! I Just remembered I dimpled the frame so that I could put the power steering on. I also picked up a set of rims that I think will work well with the truck. They are 18's and I think I am going to machine my own custom center for them. Yeah they are also going to go white. But it will be a while before I will be getting rubber for them and I need to get other things done before them. Anyway let me know what you think and enjoy the pictures.
