Not sure if this was ever put to bed, (didn't read the entire thread again), but I just stumbled on this article which appears to show the amount of change in track width from a stock 72 disc brake truck with typical drop spindles to swapping those with the modular's.

Drop Spindle install

Re: CPP Drop Spindle Special

This topic should be very easy to answer,... but no one seems to know.
There are 4 different track widths
1) Stock drum brake spindle
2) 71-87 factory disc brake spindle width
3) "standard" style 2.5" and 3" drop spindles
4) CPP Modular spindles

All would be measured from wheel mounting surface on the same truck, or on a fabricated fixture.
No bags.
No different springs.
Same set up used for all measurements.
That would put all the rumors to rest.

This would be easy enough if one had each of the spindles on hand. Have a stable fixture for the ball joint holes and a framing square to measure wms. Just a matter of rounding up the spindles; maybe a vendor could do this?

I 100% agree with you.

You would need:
1) 63-70 stock drum brake assembled spindle.
2) 71-72 stock disc brake assembly
(and maybe the 73-87 version to rule out any differences)
3) 63-70, 71-72, or 73-87 conventional DROP spindle
4) 63-70, 71-72, or 73-87 MODULAR drop spindle from CPP.
(both drop spindles would need to be measured with the same rotor installed)

Any vendors have the ability to do this?

Anyone know if the cpp 2 inch modular or regular 2 1/2 spindles will clear the early 60s apache 15 rims that are riveted together? I put 68 suspension in my 60. Thanks
