We're trying to focus on important details. Trivial details only muddle things up. I hereby state it's a photoshop... obviously

I do too. I'd own it. Just not sure how well the name fits. Sidekick might fit better. And it sure does look like a Gremlin. Same sheet metal. Here is one based off the Hornet (I think?). These two were AMC concepts
Attachment 2078553 How about this concept? Goes back to before factory pickups were offered Attachment 2078554 |
Re: Pic Thread: Not Just El Caminos
Call it what you want. AMC should have made it. It might have saved the company. That and not killing off the AMX.
But this is what we got instead. And they went belly up. :( http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...AMC_Hornet.jpg |
Re: Pic Thread: Not Just El Caminos
I miss Pontiac. I had some good times in Pontiac's. Not this one. It has no back seat. ;)

AMX wasnt killed off it went the way of the Mustange . Small displacement engines no real performance I had a few eagle 4x4s the SX4 was my favorite small 6cyl went anywhere. Loved going into the trails and people laughing untill I was either right behind them or in front . https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eagle_Premier |
Re: Pic Thread: Not Just El Caminos
It looks kinda like a 4wd mustang ll

When I say that they killed off the AMX I'm talking about the "real" AMX's. Like yours. Not just some stickers stuck on a slug. It seemed to me that American Motors never really supported them. Which is a shame because they were (and are) really cool. But I guess it was the time. Emissions regulations killed a lot of great cars. Case in point. This aint a Mustang in my opinion. It's a Pinto that went to college. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...stang_Junk.jpg |
Re: Pic Thread: Not Just El Caminos
They killed the AMX in 71 when it became just a package on the 4 seater Javalin.

Re: Pic Thread: Not Just El Caminos
I like the look of the Eagle based AMX. sure it was some body parts and decals, but the lack of power is an easy fix. It handles 10 x better than the 2 seater, and no one will care if you build it up and don't keep it oem chalk mark correct , like they will with the 2 seaters. That by the way. grandma's camery will wax it. but ah, the good ole days of h/p. right.

Everything went downhill in '73 when 5 mph bumpers were mandated and hp numbers had been shrinking. The beginning of the sticker era.
Rambler didn't build this |
Re: Pic Thread: Not Just El Caminos
I wouldn't buy that but I like it.
You know. Picture doing that to an early Nova. Hmm |

Yes the bigger bumpers look like after thoughts, but the h/p. It was not as big of a drop as it seems. The change in testing was a big part of the rating drop. Yes the drop in the compression did not help. but it was getting hit with both at the same time. made the hp loss bigger than it really was/is. the "gross" hp numbers were well. A joke. I would love to know what the honest hp at the wheels of the golden era powerhouses honestly were. 375-450hp cars running 14 seconds, and 225 hp 80's cars running 14 seconds. And they weight about the same sum thing wong I can feel it. |

I had a buddy that bought a 1980 MGB. He said that British Leyland had to raise the front end of the car to meet bumper standards. It was hard to notice but I had a 69 MGB at the time and when they were side by side. Mine sat lower and looked better. 1980 http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...m/MGB_1980.jpg 1969 http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...m/MGB_1969.jpg Kind of hard to tell. But it bugged my buddy. That and the goofy bumper. My 69 looked exactly like the red one in the pic. Nice looking car but it was not a good car. It was a PITA. But it did look good. I was in a drive thru with my buddy in it (buying beer) and a really cute girl walked up and asked me if it was a Ferrari. She was cute. So I said yes would you like to go for a ride? I got her number and dated her for a while. :) Sometimes it pays to lie to women. I'm bad. I know, But it got my foot in the door. |
