We upgraded to Dakota Digital gauges and took advantage of the ability to run them directly off the OBS II port.
Attachment 2022517 Couple shots of the engine compartment ... Attachment 2022518 Attachment 2022520 One of the issues we had was push rod length. You'd think the experts would know what their parts need but it took 3 sets to get it right. This is Connor swapping in the final set. Attachment 2022521 We also swapped the power brake master/booster for a manual master cylinder. Attachment 2022522 |

Here are a couple shots of the exhaust, 3 inch mandrel bends throughout and 3" Magna Flow mufflers. The QA1 track bar setup makes it really tight after the axle so we decided to turn them down in front of the axle until we figure something better.

Attachment 2022567 Connor installing a weather pack connector on the Vintage Air trinary switch. Attachment 2022568 Next upgrade... 9 inch reared with a 3.00 gear will work much better with the gearing of the 8 speed automatic. Attachment 2022569 Changing from a 20x8.5 squared to 20x8.5 front and 20x10 rear to get a little more meat in the rear. Going to have to put a little tub in the step side bed to make it work but it'll be worth the work. Attachment 2022570 |

Nice. Has been a long road.

:agree: Very nice ride!

Re: Old Girl (aka Project Underhaulin)
You fellas have done quite a nice job in your parts selection. The whole package looks like it could have been born that way. Seeing the rear cross member from Porterbuilt explains a lot. I bought one from CPP but it is going to need surgery to be able to work.
I’m doing a Gen V swap with an L83 ( the 6.2’s little brother) and a 6 speed automatic. I’m curious of your power output, did Texas Speed give you an idea of what the mods would produce? I hope it gives you years of miles and smiles! :metal: |

It all looks good guys!
Ernie, where did you source the cable clamps for the parking brake cables in the picture? The brass piece with the set screws. I'm having trouble finding some that will fit in the connector. |

Nice updates!

Re: Old Girl (aka Project Underhaulin)
looks amazing. I have the stock 6.2 in my newer GMC Sierra and man does it run nice. I am sure it is a blast in that truck. These new gen 5 motors are a couple steps above the previous ones.
You all have done a great job on this one. Dave |

Looks awesome! I am very jealous of what's in the engine bay.

Re: Old Girl (aka Project Underhaulin)
Hey I'm curious about your steering setup, specifically what u-joint, shaft, etc. you're using. I'm swapping over to a redhead steering box, and the connection between my Ididit column and the box looks hacked together by the previous owner, and I'd like to do it better. Any suggestions?

I found some videos about the right way to mount to the ididit column. They say not to put the 3/4"DD INTO the column, and that's exactly what the PO did. Instead, they say use a coupler that mounts over the column output, which is what I'll do next. I appreciate the willingness to help. Your build inspired me to ensure my steering setup was better. |

The latest mod is the 9 inch swap. We got it all mocked up this week end to check fit. I probably could have gone an inch shorter over all but I'm sure we'll be fine, may have to trim or roll the fender lip a bit. Next is powder coat and final reassembly. The 3.00 gear should really improve the drivability and turn it into a freeway flyer!
