1972 K5 CST Highlander Blazer Patina Texas
Ok, some of you guys are aware I was looking for a patina K5 Blazer. Some of
You are aware of the one I bought. So I am going to start a build thread on it and maybe it will help some in the future for documentation or for originality. I bought a 1972 Highlander CST. It has all its paper work. Has pro tecto plate that shows where it was bought and sold. Original sold and stayed in original town until now. First owner had for 8-10 years, second owner had it for over 30 years until now. I have had it for 2 weeks and it has been fun going thru it, it's like a little time capsule. |

Currently putting original black tilt steering wheel back on. Taking old window tint off. Fixing to get it ready to buff. Also did find original build sheet, it was still in blazer.

Re: 1972 K5 CST Highlander Blazer Patina Texas
What a great find. I'm not as up to speed on blazers as I should be(!) - what trim levels could the highlander packages be ordered on for the blazers? Asking because I noticed this one is a CST which is akin to the Cheyenne level in trucks, and only Custom Deluxe trucks could have the plaid trim. In fact, I don't recall seeing CST glove boxes in 72 (on trucks), so I have a lot to learn about blazers... So am curious - know it was different for blazers, but just wondering how it worked - what trim levels could still opt for the highlander package. That is one great example, yikes!

Re: 1972 K5 CST Highlander Blazer Patina Texas
This blazer does have original wood grain lower trim on it to. Not seen very often.

Re: 1972 K5 CST Highlander Blazer Patina Texas
Wyoming craigslist?

Re: 1972 K5 CST Highlander Blazer Patina Texas
Jocko, highlander package was only available on the CST blazers. For whatever reason, blazers never upgraded to the Cheyenne nameplate in 71. They were called CSTs throughout 69-72. I'm glad this went to a board member. It looked like quite a deal. And it was on billings mt craigslist

Well back bumper is back on with some vintage plates. Front bumper, inner grille and outer grille are off. Getting ready to do a little buffing.

Re: 1972 K5 CST Highlander Blazer Patina Texas
That is pretty cool, I defiantly like the Highlander package on a Blazer. Great find, and congrats!

Re: 1972 K5 CST Highlander Blazer Patina Texas
Did you say you found the original build sheet? Where was it found and do you have a pic? Nice find

Re: 1972 K5 CST Highlander Blazer Patina Texas
Thanks GPS1975. I looked for several months. Not near as long as some guys do. I feel pretty lucky getting it. Especially a Highlander. I never dreamed I would have gotten one like this. I truely just wanted a original rig, 71 or 72. Just wanted original paint. If I got options great, if not great. But I am really happy with this blazer. With all the options that this one has, then the second owner having it for over 30 yrs, never being painted, not wrecked was great. Then get it home and see protecto plate and factory build sheet in glove box was a surprise. It will be a great rig for me since I like patina. Can't wait to get the blazer were I want. Detailing, cleaning, new highlander front covers, etc.

Re: 1972 K5 CST Highlander Blazer Patina Texas
I will try to get a pic of that original build sheet tomorrow. I honestly don't know we're previous owner found it. I found it in glove box with protecto plate paper work. I bet he found it under the carpet or under driver seat. The 80 yr old man bought blazer for his daughter to take to college. She drove it and the I guess it sat and then his son got it and drove it for a little while and then he parked it. The son that I bought it from was in his 50's.

Re: 1972 K5 CST Highlander Blazer Patina Texas
That's awesome documentation. I'd wonder if the original owner or family could be contacted for some vintage photos. Here's the story on Fichtner Chevrolet: http://billingsgazette.com/news/loca...89e0e2f5b.html

Re: 1972 K5 CST Highlander Blazer Patina Texas
Beautiful truck. Congrats. Don't see many tire covers either. As many pics as you can take of bolts, fasteners and finishes would be great. A complete and original/unmolested truck like this is a real resource. Kudos on the preservation.

Re: 1972 K5 CST Highlander Blazer Patina Texas
Unreal. I don't get around as much as some do on this forum but I don't remember ever seeing a Blazer build sheet before, much less one in near-new condition with the Protect-O-Plate. I can just imagine that green bar paper spewing out of a huge printer next to the assembly line in Flint.

Re: 1972 K5 CST Highlander Blazer Patina Texas
Did some buffing today for several hours. Pics don't really show as much of a change but there was. Maybe I can get some better pics when sun is out and ice is gone.

Re: 1972 K5 CST Highlander Blazer Patina Texas
The pics don't really do it justice, but the green is actually starting to come back out. Going to buff it some more. Paint is really dry, I need to find some wax with some sort of oil in it to put some moisture back in the paint. Anyone have any opinions on that.
|
Re: 1972 K5 CST Highlander Blazer Patina Texas
I've had good luck with meguiars ultimate paste wax. It feels pretty oily. That's all I used on my 63 with no buffing. Really brought the paint back to life. Blazers looking good! We lost power at the house this morning....
