67 Vermillion Red CST Build
5 Attachment(s)
Here are some pictures of my truck. I picked this up a year and a half ago and I am starting to make some progress.
My goal is a nice reliable driver. Also, I wanted something to do with my twin boys that would give them some mechanical knowledge and ability. I am going to put a modern LS engine in it mainly for reliability and also because it is really inexpensive power. I purchased a wrecked 2006 GMC Denali pickup with 96000 miles on it for $2000, parted it out and sold $1850 dollars worth of parts. I kept the engine, (LQ9 6.0L) 4L65E trans, gas pedal, computer and all the wiring, exhaust etc. So I am into it $150.00. That is why I say inexpensive. The truck is pretty solid. The floors and cab mounts are really nice. It does have rusted rockers, and the cowl in rusted through. |

Not sure why that one pic keeps posting sideways. Tried changing it 3 times.

Sweet. I have a full sister to that truck. If you are going to run an LS are you going to run a digital gauges set-up? If so I would be interested in your original cluster.

This is a picture of me and my sister in front of my Dads truck. 72 I believe.
I was born in 67 so I would have been 4 or 5. |

Hope I can get it all back together. That took me a couple of hours, after putting up some more lights in the garage.

Re: 67 Vermillion Red CST Build
I'm in for this build. Looks fun, and you have the hard part covered- the help! Your boys and you will have some awesome memories from this.

Progress is slow but I am making some at least. Ended up purchasing another cab that popped up on Facebook and has good metal where mine is rusted out.

Re: 67 Vermillion Red CST Build
I too have a relative to yours (LOL).
Mine was a 283/glide pickup, with nearly no other options, but has factory AC. Mine did not come with engine or trans. Mine has a SB 406/TH400 waiting for it...:) Mine has driver sun visor only. I have seen color charts here, they call that color Vermillion Poly. |
Re: 67 Vermillion Red CST Build
Mine has the fancier gauge package, with AC (as I mentioned). Has a driver side sun visor, only , but no arm rests on either door.

Re: 67 Vermillion Red CST Build
My 68 Burb is that Vermillion Red with weird green door panels...I do not understand that combo...Someone painted over the outside, but the inside is still red.

It's been a while since I have posted or made much progress. I started fitting part of the patch but it's been so cold my helmet fogs up and I can't see what I'm doing. I have also had a couple other projects come up. I purchased a hemi Durango at the auction that had a bad cam and lifters. Had to move the truck out of the garage for a while.
Today I started building my LFD cab tip and flip dolly. It's been a fun project. |

looking forward to seeing that dolly at work

Re: 67 Vermillion Red CST Build
If you could, I would love to see the detail of the insides of the doors where red paint ends and the fawn begins, very interested in that detail on original paint trucks.

Re: 67 Vermillion Red CST Build
Following! I've got a 67 lwb with the same color combo. Any recent progress?
|
Re: 67 Vermillion Red CST Build
No nothing recently. I had a joint fusion and bone graft surgery in my foot in the spring due to an old injury. That pretty much put me out of commission for all the good weather this year. I started insulating my garage this fall but was not able to get it done before it got cold. Yes I am a wimp when it comes to doing hobbies in the cold.

Re: 67 Vermillion Red CST Build
Ok, was just curious. I've finally gotten onto mine. Just got the frame painted. Now short on funds. Lol. Ain't that the way it goes?
|
Re: 67 Vermillion Red CST Build
Totally. I just spent 3500 bucks on concrete. Could have bought some nice parts with that.

I am needing to spend about same amount of $$$ on concrete, I am hoping for less than $3500.00... |

The cowl is the worst thing. Floors are good, cab supports are good but the rockers and cab corners are rusted through. I have all of the new metal, just got to get it done. I was really hoping to get the garage fully insulated an heated for this winter but I just ran out of time. I also have another project that I put some time into this last summer. It is the other brand. A 76 F250 Camper Special. My cousins gave it to me after their Mom passed away. It is in quite good shape. |
Re: 67 Vermillion Red CST Build
My favorite F word is free and that green truck came to you at the right price. Can’t turn those down.
I have a similar 67 in my shop with the same color combination only mine is a custom cab. Still has 283 with three speed on the column. I have similar rust issues and am guessing my cowl area will look too much like yours when I get it pulled apart. Nice project and should be fun. |
Re: 67 Vermillion Red CST Build
Would the cousins dis own you if you slipped a big block or an LSx in the F*</?
I built a Shelby Cobra replica with an LS1 20 years back, and just loved to watch the faces cringe when a ford lover would look under the hood. Priceless:metal: |
Re: 67 Vermillion Red CST Build
Good thing about your newly acquired rebuilt dodge, is that it has disc brakes, even though they are engineered by the "F" folks.
Many folks love those pickups, I have no idea why...what engine??? |
