67 GMC Pontiac powered Project
1 Attachment(s)
My initial goal with this truck was a low buck project that can be driven and use up some stuff I have laying around.
Bought this for $700, Longbed stepside that the cab looked pretty decent, maybe just rockers. Rest of the truck is pretty beat but salvageable. |

First order of business was to shorten the frame, This was pretty easy.
Not sure why pics are rotated, will have to look into that. |

I have a low mileage 400 Pontiac and 400 turbo I thought I would use it here.
Used 73 up frame brackets, with some minor tweaking, fit is pretty decent. Sorry about the rotated pics, They're straight on my computer, Used the search function to no avail |
Re: 67 GMC Pontiac powered Project
Well the thought of not pulling the cab was short lived.

Re: 67 GMC Pontiac powered Project
Pretty much where it sits now, It definitely is not a show build but should be ok.
I'm a little hesitant to post after seeing so many beautiful builds https://i.postimg.cc/0ysg2tNL/IMG-20...-163210394.jpg Dash coming together https://i.postimg.cc/Y9m8FHn8/IMG-20...-141434029.jpg More progress as it happens |

Re: 67 GMC Pontiac powered Project
Here's the driver side, had to cut about an inch out at the top.
https://i.postimg.cc/ZKjh5GWX/IMG-20...-111320387.jpg pass side, no cut, engine brackets 74-76 full size Pontiac https://i.postimg.cc/9QzsFr5q/IMG-20...-111327429.jpg |
Re: 67 GMC Pontiac powered Project
Wow! Good stuff!
Thanks for the photos. |
Re: 67 GMC Pontiac powered Project
A little progress
CPP Disc brake kit, Nice kit, they originally sent the wrong rotors, but they made it right. I moved the brake hose mount to the front side of the crossmember so the hose would fit better. https://i.postimg.cc/Xv2X0wQ1/IMG-20...-170750901.jpg |
Re: 67 GMC Pontiac powered Project
What part of the drivers side mount did you have to cut???
GMC goofed when they stopped using Pontiac engines in 59 (?) THat 400 will be awesome in that pickup!!! |
Re: 67 GMC Pontiac powered Project
It runs,
Sounds pretty good,I'm afraid I may have let the engine sit too long, A bit of a miss and smoke out the right exhaust. Hopefully it will clear up after I run it some more. Other progress, brake lines, rear brakes, E brake cables, most of the exhaust. Some wiring gremlins to deal with under the dash. https://i.postimg.cc/zXkCNmwb/3-7-20-First-fire-up.jpg |
Re: 67 GMC Pontiac powered Project
Looking good! I like the blue and gold.
|
Re: 67 GMC Pontiac powered Project
A little temporary progress, I bought another car and needed to clean out the extra bay of all the truck parts so I threw some parts together
https://i.postimg.cc/BnXSz2XY/67-GMC-2020-3-28-2.jpg Engine coming back out  I bought this engine out of a 60k mi. rusty 72 Catalina. I figured I would take a chance. After running the engine, it had a miss that turned out to be a flat cam, and upon disassembly there is a little rust pitting in the cylinder bores .030 should clean it up, so now I'll do it right and rebuild it. https://i.postimg.cc/k5sTtRyC/IMG-20...-150218473.jpg |
Re: 67 GMC Pontiac powered Project
Looks great buddy!
|
Re: 67 GMC Pontiac powered Project
Wasn't that long ago if you bought a new GMC it might have very well had a Pontiac Motor in it.
|
Re: 67 GMC Pontiac powered Project
Got the engine running good today,
Bored .030 pistons, bearings, valve job, mild performance cam. I couldn't get it to run right with the old AFB, I had an Edelbrock intake and always wanted to try a Demon carb, which worked excellent out of the box. So, I'm back to where I was in March ready to make some progress.;) https://i.postimg.cc/5tQMynf4/IMG-20...-165407355.jpg |

Re: 67 GMC Pontiac powered Project
Some progress
Ran it up the gravel road seems to run good I got the front end together. The doors were pretty rough, so I got a set of aftermarket ones. There is a parts supplier is within 100 miles so I saved on shipping. Took the front fenders back off:cool: The right door went right on. https://i.postimg.cc/dt6nRF9v/IMG-20...64411877-2.jpg The only left door they had was a customer return and he knocked $100 off it, so what the heck I took it. It took me two days to get it to fit. had to drill out the spot welds on the top frame and adjust to get it lined up plus a little hammer and dolly work on one edge https://i.postimg.cc/QxqspFPt/IMG-20...1153-HDR-3.jpg Still need to work on the fender adjustments a bit |
Re: 67 GMC Pontiac powered Project
Nice, I've had a couple of Pontiac 400's, good engines if you don't over rev them.
Good luck, Rg |

Re: 67 GMC Pontiac powered Project
I once owned a 55 GMC with a factory 287 Pontiac engine. I have a 317 out of a 56 GMC. once I installed a 301 Pontiac in a 72 chev. I have a 67 400 with the stick bell & flywheel Been thinking about putting it in my 82 chev 3/4 ton. Im a big fan of Pontiac engines.

Re: 67 GMC Pontiac powered Project

Re: 67 GMC Pontiac powered Project
Not much to report, stuck in paint jail,it's been 9 months, needless to say I am less than pleased.

Re: 67 GMC Pontiac powered Project
Hang in there man. For me the wait is worth it but it's all the other things I could have gotten done on the truck while it sits.
Ugg! |
Re: 67 GMC Pontiac powered Project
Got it back today, it had been at the body shop about 10 months.
It's a 67 Impala color Sierra Fawn Poly https://i.postimg.cc/9MbTR93J/67-GMC-2021-7-10-2.jpgscreen grab He's a 1 man shop out in the country who overbooked himself. Nice guy, wouldn't take any money until completed. Wasn't sure how much he was going to charge, ended up being about half of what I expected. https://i.postimg.cc/wMxrLD1v/67-GMC-2021-7-11-2.jpg Not perfect but looks pretty good to me for a driver. Now, to get it put back together. |
Re: 67 GMC Pontiac powered Project
Sweet!!!!!!!!!
|
Re: 67 GMC Pontiac powered Project
It's looking great! Did you get the grill top-bar painted? I couldn't tell from the pics.
Rg |
Re: 67 GMC Pontiac powered Project
Thanks for the kind words
Yes he painted the top bar It was fun putting the rivets in the grille:) https://i.postimg.cc/28K3PfZ8/67-GMC-2021-7-17-2.jpg I'm not sure the truck rally's are going to stay, I was hoping the guy that makes the clips to put the 67 vette style center on these rims would make another batch, but its been over a year since he made the last clips. Had a set of bucket seats freshly upholstered in black that came with another car I had bought, I believe they were out of a later tahoe, but the backs are too thick and put me right up on the steering wheel, so the stock seat is getting redone |
Re: 67 GMC Pontiac powered Project
That chrome 67 grille really looks sharp on the front of that truck. Well done
|
Re: 67 GMC Pontiac powered Project
Nice, the 67 GMC's are one of my favorites.
|
Re: 67 GMC Pontiac powered Project
Some progress, still a ways to go.
Waiting on the seat, wiring issues, mostly lights, one leaf is weak in the rear and a bunch of little stuff https://i.postimg.cc/tgTJxYp7/67-GMC-2021-8-20-2.jpg |
Re: 67 GMC Pontiac powered Project
That shor is a pretty truck! :metal:
|
Re: 67 GMC Pontiac powered Project
Very nice work, unique color choice, I like it.
|
Re: 67 GMC Pontiac powered Project
Beautiful truck !!
|
Re: 67 GMC Pontiac powered Project
Just about finished, Got the seat back from upholstery shop.
https://i.postimg.cc/TwfvfWTZ/67-GMC-2021-11-20.jpg Still need to get it aligned, and stop a dipstick seal leak on the trans. Also I would like to fix and paint the original steering wheel Need to get another new rear bumper, the one I bought has a pretty good bow in it ( high in the center and lower on each end) like it was banded too tight when shipped, And to be honest I've had it a long time and don't remember where I bought it:( |
