1969 c10 long to short little to big
So, I sold my 71 suburban to buy my 69 c10 lwb truck. i got it really cheap. i thought it would be awsome to build a nice running little 327 afr heads big cam the whole deal. well i built the motor and didnt like it so it sat for a year, i have been reading lfd's low buck build and let me tell you that guy opened my eyes to a whole new world. i decided to make it a short bed, and drop a 6.0, 4l60 trans out of a 04 h2.

here we go, i started by leveling the truck on stands, tires are off to make it a little lower. just like low buck i layed out my lines 8-3/4 than 8" layed my tape and cut. so far so good. ill prolly cut the front later even though i does kinda look different with the bobbed rear.:gi: but ill be posting pics of my progress its gonna be slow, money comes slow lol. weekends are the only time i can really work on it.

i tried a different method on connecting the 2 panels together. i didnt hacve panel clips so what i did was cut a 3" section off the 8" cut piece. i drilled holes and used self tappers to hold it. by doing this, when you put them together all the body lines line up.its more work but it was an experiment.:gi:

Re: 1969 c10 long to short little to big
Nice project, you did a great job on the bed! The rust looks very familiar, just like mine. I though you Arizona guys got all the nice rust free ones. Keep up the work looks great so far!

Its been a long time wince ive been on here. Sorry for the long break. Truck got tucked in the garage for a few years not much has been going on with it. I had a 6.0/80 sitting in it but my other truck at the time broke so i used the trans. And my current truck got the 6.0. So now im starting over again lol. I have a 5.3 and an 80 that needs built so im gathering parts again. Its g ot another cab now the other was junk ill post pics of the progress. I need to start getting back into this build thread. Stay tuned

After sitting for years the bed was in primer and the weather got to it, so decided to pull the bed apart sandblast everything and bought new bedsides. Like a noob i tightened everything and the tailgate did not line up at all then it dawned on me lol. Loosend it all back up and made adjustments. It all fit pretty well.
|
Re: 1969 c10 long to short little to big
The more I look at my bedsides I think I might just buy repro sides. Ill blast and use the floor assuming its still good when I get to that point.

Re: 1969 c10 long to short little to big
Leland, nice to see you back on the truck and working on it again. It's going to be a cool truck. I've been collecting pieces to build a short bed truck just need to find a better cab to use. The original cab is toast.

I had installed a 25 gal k5 tank with the pump inside years ago, i didnt think, and the bed rail hits the sending unit. Had to modify it a little bit now it fits and tank doesn't hang to low

Been making some progress, got some wheels and tires finally, riddler 650s. 20x10 rear and 20x8.5 front need to get size on tires. Im gonna be working on the truck pretty steady over the next few months. I decided to make a few changes, i was going to put a 5.3 turbo in it, maybe in the future but im going to stick this 6.2 Frankenstein engine i built along with a 4l80, should be around 450 whp so it will be fun. I want to drive it to shows

Got brake lines from inline tube installed, got my calipers installed , had to modify the the angle and trim some of the caliper so it didn't bind when turning. Used brakes hoses of a buick gs they used the same size thread as my lines for the 69. Also hot my track bar installed from cpp gas tank had to get moved back so that was fun.. more trimming on the bed to allow it to fit but it fits.. very happy how its all coming along. The tank is out of a 87 k5 blazer that has the internal fuel pump.
