I have a 49 Chevy 3600.It is pretty much original with the exception that the engine was changed in 53.There is no damage other than a couple of windows, and no rust. All I need to do is bleed the brakes, and it would be driveable.

I think I will just clean and paint, and leave it all stock. It is in amazing condition to have been in MO it's whole life.

The only changes I have made are wheels and tires, only because it didn't have any,but that's not a permanent situation,so no problems.
I might change my mind midstream and big block it with a car frame, but that isn't the plan right now:D

WOW, Amazing shape for a MO truck!
It must have stayed in the fields and off the salty roads in the winter ;)

Brainchild 10-06-2004 09:03 PM

Actually it sat in a leanto shed for a long while, lucky for me:D

horvath 10-07-2004 05:07 AM

I bought my '54 out of Texas in January of 2003 ... it's my daily driver now.

http://www.alanhorvath.com/54chevy/c.../ride_home.jpg

It's got a 350/350 setup and all the improvements I've done are posted at my site for all to share -- lots of cool info -- click link below my sig.

This is my 1955 3/4 ton 235 ci. 1st series. It is all original, except for the paint and side mirrors. It has very little rust (Only a small hole in pass side floor). It runs and drives great. I bought this off a guy from Oklahoma, who keep it in his barn.

horvath 10-16-2004 06:55 PM

Nice truck!

Hey - that hood ornament is worth $250.00!!!

Brainchild 10-17-2004 01:38 AM

Oh now I have to get the brakes fixed, and tag the beast. That looks cool in hte driveway Razor:D:D

Razor454 10-18-2004 07:10 PM

Thanks guys. I can't wait to finish my 1967 Chevy and begin work on the 1955. I’m still in the process of trying to figure out what I want to do to the 1955....custom or original or a mix of both....still undecided.

BTW like your guys' trucks. Nothing like finding a nice one to restore :D ...I’ve probable looked at 10 or so 1947-1955 1st series trucks before finding this one. Everything that I have looked at here (Indiana) is very badly rusted or damaged.

Brainchild 10-18-2004 07:52 PM

I'm in the undecided stage also,so don't feel alone. That S10 frame swap sounds like a cool idea, late model suspension, power acc, disc brakes,V8,auto.Man that is cool. But an original ride is awesome too,so I'm kinda torn.

HELP ME!

OH and it looks kinda out of place in it's surroundings:lol:

NeCrOmAnCeR 10-19-2004 08:36 PM

Wife said I have to finish the '67 Mustang before I even get to look at the '49. But I have been crunching ideas after seeing all the trucks at the NSRA street rod nationals this summer. Now where are all those Mustang parts??.....

'54 3100, 235, dual Offy intake with Fenton headers, T5 trans, and 12 3:56 rear end. It's still got the straight axle, but with mone leaf suspension. Ridea a little rough, but what the heck, it's a truck.

Are you asking me? If so, 350 .040 over, Flat top forged pistons & rods, steel crank, Edelbrock power package (cam, aluminum heads, airgap intake, 600cfm carb) TH-400 trans, 373 rear soon to be 410. Has too much torque to get it to the road witht he leaf rear suspension. I'm hoping to put a triangulated 4 bar with air ride this winter. Also toying with the idea of tubbing it this winter.
