Cowl hoods take away from the natural lines of our 67-72 trucks. Just my .02 cents.

Re: Cowl hoods for a 72 gmc
Have you checked out Unlimited Products? They are located in So. Cal. out in the high desert. My brother purchased one of their cowl hoods for a V8 Luv truck that he built. He was happy with the hood, but then he built it for drag racing and not a show truck. Their addy is up22.com

Chevlwb68,
If it were up to my Wife, she'd say the SAME THING too. She LOVES Stock, refurbished Muscle Cars. Me I like the Hot Rod/Rat Rod look. Roger |
Re: Cowl hoods for a 72 gmc
i got mine from LMC. i had to trim it a little to get it to close all the way, but it looks great and fits nice now

1BadChevy,
That would require the Skill/Time/Patience/Knowledge and Room to accomplish that task. NON of which I have. Roger |
Re: Cowl hoods for a 72 gmc
I purchased mine at the Pamona swap meet for $350.00 fits great. I don't know where Cobb, Ca is but if you can make it to Pamona they always have them there.

Re: Cowl hoods for a 72 gmc
I am a big cowl hood guy on 73 to 98 but I would never have one on my 67. They just dont look right to me
|
Re: Cowl hoods for a 72 gmc
I have always loved cowl hoods. I would never put one on my current 68 but I would love to get a shortbed 68 and get a 4 inch cowl hood on it. I think just about anything under 4 inches just looks stupid.

I like a cowl hood.
May try to make my own, then buy one when that goes wrong... |

Re: Cowl hoods for a 72 gmc
They all have that screen. I would be more concerned about the manufacturer. There are a few companies stampig these out. WES
|
Re: Cowl hoods for a 72 gmc
Wes,
Yes they may all have the screens, but LMC was the ONLY ONE to show it. No one else had it in their Pictures or their Descriptions. If that be the case, then they should update it, because I'm ready to buy one on MONDAY! :metal: Roger "RATIKLE" |
Re: Cowl hoods for a 72 gmc
We sell Triplus hoods and they have the screen. Unfortunatly we do not have the personnel to offer every picture of every part or complete description of every part we sell. We offer way over 500,000 parts . I wish we could. I would just get one from LMC.

Re: Cowl hoods for a 72 gmc
OK...question here.
I'm going to have the Cowl Hood shipped to my Mechanics and he's going to help me install it. While I'm at it, the Cowl piece (between the Hood & Front Window) is bent and I'd like to install a new one along with the "netting" underneath that prevents Pine Needles and other crap from getting in there. I guess I'm asking is the time to do this; when the old Hoods off..... before the new one goes on, and how hard is it to change that Cowl? Whats involved? Roger "RATKLE" :gmc2: |

Re: Cowl hoods for a 72 gmc
Anyone ever use the Truck Shop out of Orange, CA? Their site is http://truckandcarshop.com/index.html.
The guy I just bought my truck from said he has used them a lot and likes them. They show a cowl for a 69-72 for $389 in their latest catalog. I haven't used them yet, but I haven't seen them mentioned anywhere on this site, good or bad. Anybody used them? |
Re: Cowl hoods for a 72 gmc
I buy all my parts from the Truck shop in Orange and they have awesome prices, especially during their once a year 10% off everything sale. I have a cowl hood on my 67 Camaro and it helps give me room for my 396 but I don't like them on 67-72 trucks, makes the front end look too chunky and cluttered and just does seem to look right on a truck. Cowl induction is for a muscle car, not for a truck. To each his own, though.
|
Re: Cowl hoods for a 72 gmc
Yeah, I am not a big fan on trucks either.
When is the 10% sale usually? Do they mail something out, or how do you find out? |
Re: Cowl hoods for a 72 gmc
OK since I started this thread, I need to VENT!!! :smoke:
I'm looking for (what I call) the "Cowl" that goes on at the Bottom of the Front Windshield and between the Hood/Windshield!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All my life I've been calling it a "Cowl" but when I search the Part Vendors, I always get COWL HOODS, and can't find what I', looking for. Am I calling it by the right name or does NO ONE carry it...(unlikely). ;+( Roger RATIKLE" |
Re: Cowl hoods for a 72 gmc
I don't think it is being reproduced. Have to find it used. I call it the cowl panel.

No WONDER all the catalogs I look at, that part is "Whited/Grayed" out. HMMMmmmm............. Maybe mine is not in THAT bad of shape after all.:mm: Roger "RATIKLE" |
Re: Cowl hoods for a 72 gmc
Nope, I'm not. I have seen used ones with no antenna hole for the guys who don't want to run an external antenna. Might be nice for that smooth look. On my Camaro I welded shut the cowl vents and smoothed the whole thing. Looks sweet like that. I think I may have seen a smoothed fiberglass version of the 67-72 truck cowl panel on Ebay, not sure though.

Re: Cowl hoods for a 72 gmc
Tracked my Cowl Hood and it will be at my Mechanics TOMORROW:devil:

Re: Cowl hoods for a 72 gmc
A day with new parts being delivered is like Christmas day. I just love getting parts in the mail. I have parts all over my house and I love it.

Re: Cowl hoods for a 72 gmc
I had my body man shave my wiper cowl. And I have a LMC cowl hood. Fit pretty good with a little adjusting/grinding on my aftermarket chrome hinges.
Check out my build thread for pics. If you cowl is a little bent, might be a good one to shave completly. |

He opened the very top and already noted 3 Dents that are 2"-3" in Diameter.:ack: I called LMC, but unfortunatly I'm on the Left Coast and they're only there untill 4PM (PDT), so I'll have to call back tomorrow. My Mechanic noted it on the Bill Of Lading and I'm going down tomorrow to take pictures of the damage.:metal: So from MY perspective, they need to: 1) Ship a replacement Hood IMMEDIATLY, and not wait for this one to be returned. 2)Give me $$ in refund for fixing the Hood, (and NOT a "Credit" off my next purchase). So my NEXT question will be, has anyone had a similar problem with a Hood or Body Panel from LMC (or any other Manufacterer) and what was YOUR problem and the outcome? Roger "RATIKLE" :gmc2: |
