1957 Chevy Truck
After viewing threads on this website for the past several months, I decided to join today!
I recently ( three months ago) bought a 1957 Chevy Shortbed stepside pickup. I've always loved these trucks and when someone local put a for sale sign on his, I jumped on it. The truck was built about 10 years ago. The thing is solid as a tank. the entire floor of the cab and steps were replaced with thicker than stock steel It has the following specs: 1977 chevy 350 engine three speed manual custom steel tilt nose 1972 12 bolt GM rear, 411 gears 1968 chevy truck front clip 1975 chevy power steering tilt steering column I recently installed a retrosound radio that works great and fits right in the dash. next on my list is getting heat in the truck. theres no heater core , but everything else is there |

Nice looking truck... Are you gonna try and find an OEM heater core? or pick up one of those HVAC systems you see on ebay?

Re: 1957 Chevy Truck
I can get by in NY without AC, but I definitely want to get the heat working.

Re: 1957 Chevy Truck
Nice, yeah you need to get some heat going, especially with the weather we have tonight and tomorrow! I had my 58 out tonight and had the deluxe heater cranking. Man that thing throws out a TON of heat!

Re: 1957 Chevy Truck
Try A-1 Johnson Auto Wrecking in Billings, MT. AFAIK they still update their inventory with old iron.

Re: 1957 Chevy Truck
Heater hoses hooked up today. I have heat! it really cranks! gotta love how the heater core replacement is a 1 hour job in this truck. probably take 2 days to change the one in my 2000 Silverado

good deal !!!!

Re: 1957 Chevy Truck
My truck is like Frankenstein, with parts from 10 different trucks...but i'm glad I was able to use the original heater box. Some black rustoleum and a sticker from ebay.. looks great.

Re: 1957 Chevy Truck
I installed a radio in the truck.... I got the retro sound apache radio.. I like how it fits right in the dash opening! the display is real nice , blue numbers on a black background. I hooked it up to two autosound speakers in the original location by the rearview mirror... then I hooked up a kenwood powered subwoofer that fits under the seat. it sounds great! The radio has an awesome feature - it has a USB reader that I put in the glovebox..plays mp3 and wma files
also installed a toggle switch in the dash to control the interior light, as well as door jamb switches on both doors :) http://www.planetgrooveonline.com/images/radio.jpg http://www.planetgrooveonline.com/images/dash.jpg |
Re: 1957 Chevy Truck
so i am guessing your headlight switch doesnt work for your dome light ?

the headlight switch would most likely work for the dome light if I attach the dome light wire... is it difficult to do? |
