Owen's C10
5 Attachment(s)
So I picked up this beauty Saturday as project to work on with my son. It was sitting in the neighbours back yard for the last 10 or 15 years, maybe more....lol. It's pretty rough, but I've seen a lot worse, and since I only paid $100 if I start to feel like it needs too much work I can just push it aside...

I'm not 100% sure of the year, the cab and front end lead me to believe it's a 68, and all of the red parts on it are from a GMC of roughly the same year. there's a 920 badge on the left fender...the chassis has 8 lug wheels and a strange rear end with a bolt in center section and a bolt on diff cover, the neighbour says he has the ownership somewhere...

gutted the interior and ripped the box off, also cut all the springs out to keep me motivated...lol. floors, mounts, rockers, and cab corners are gone, but the rest is pretty decent, I'll know more when I pull the front clip off, but so far the windshield area, cowl, and firewall look good.

Re: Owen's C10
the frame gets rusty from the axel back which also makes it a good candidate for a step notch and back half. I also want to make it into a short bed truck.
|
Re: Owen's C10
If the blue front fender is original it's a 67. The cigarette lighter is a 67 only piece as well.

Re: Owen's C10
The red parts are 68 gmc and as stated above the rest of the truck is 67, the ignition is 67 only the fire wall is a little different from 68-72 as well lots of little things are different on 67's compared to 68-72

Re: Owen's C10
Looks like a nice build. I'm in

Re: Owen's C10
question: will my 86 stock control arms bolt up to the 67? that way I could use my old arms, spindles, and brakes, then I could put some normal wheels on it. well on the front anyway.

Re: Owen's C10
I'm gonna pull the cab off this weekend so I can work on the frame, I got a notch ordered for it, and also the cab floor needs some work!....actually it needs a new floor. then I need to look for a rear end....

Owen workin hard cleaning up the crossmember.....cut the rear cab mounts, bed mounts, and old tranny member off, then cleaned the frame up a little with the grinder, and gave it a quick coat of paint. I'll probably get my bro to sand blast everything when we get finished with the frame...

Re: Owen's C10

8 lug drum to 5 lug disc conversion....I used the old control arms and spindles off my c10 and swapped them to the 67...glad I saved that crap!...I was surprised at how easily it came apart after 40 some years....hopefully I can get some drop spindles and some rotors this week, and I can use the old calipers, then get the front wheels bolted up.

Re: Owen's C10
found a 10 bolt rear end from a Camaro that my bro had lying around, actually the same rear end I got the posi and gears out of....according to my calculations the Camaro rear is roughly 3" narrower than the 12 bolt in the 69...that should make for a nice wide wheel! now just need new axles or have them re-drilled...

I'm so sick of grinding rivets!....10,000 later and the rear end and all the other crap is gone..

Re: Owen's C10

I had to go and take the 10 bolt out of the Camaro, cut all the brackets off, then find the gears, bearing races and shims, and get them and the axles back in. I cut the mounts off the eaton rear end so I could mock up the Camaro 10 bolt and tack it in place. I want to run porterbuilt tubular drop arms later down the road....just jammed the wheels on it for now.
