Salvage yard trip

5 Attachment(s)
I took vacation on Friday and made my annual spring trip to the salvage yard before it gets hot, muggy, and full of critters I want no part dealing with. It also gets ridiculously hot around all that metal. I plan to return in the fall once the weather has cooled off. I wanted share some of the pics I took with everyone. There are a lot of trucks though most are pretty well picked over or nature has run its course with them. At any rate, enjoy!

Thanks for sharing. Compared to SoCal yards those have not even picked over a little. I'm liking that unibody, post 1 last picture.

Here is a before and after pic of a truck in a SoCal pick and pull. Time lapse is about 2 hours :smoke:

Those are great pics you posted! That gold 68 looks like my trucks twin

We rarely see 67-72 truck in the yards around here. Yours looks like a gold mine, comparatively speaking.

Alas the once-famed ''Rust-Free'' junkyards of Arizona are no more. Fished out of good stuff by parts hunters from the North and East, and the land is worth more to developers as strip malls and condominiums than scrapyards.

Here in NJ you aren't even allowed to enter the yard and look around. Thanks for sharing the pics!

About 5 years ago, I was working on a Transformers movie that was shooting at Desert Valley Auto Parts in Phoenix. Big robot rumble in the junkyard. We were rigging the 4 aught cable for lighting and FX. I got dropped off by the driver, and was looking to join up with the Riggers when I passed a complete '68 Stepside. I stopped to look at it, when I heard:
''HEY YOU! What're doing there?''
'Looking for the film crew,' I answered.
''Oh. OK. They're over that way, by the fence,'' he said, in a much milder tone.
The dude sure was protective. They used to shoot a reality TV show there "Desert Valley Kings'' a Chop /Cut /Rebuild format show.
You'ld think I was gonna swag a Rear View Mirror, or something...
I think they were saving that Stepside for a sale as a whole truck. Never found anything more about it.

PIX: A couple views of the Hero Truck. A '69 K/5 with factory rocket launchers.

Did you come across any power steering pump brackets for an inline 6?

Re: Salvage yard trip

We still have a few in the old wreckers here but they don't look like those pictures. Most of those trucks in those pics are nicer than the trucks we start with here. Small parts are about all we can get off of the rusted hulks here. Definitely no sheet metal!
