Gauge cluster rewire
5 Attachment(s)
During my LS swap, I installed a 91 Suburban electronic speedo cluster. All was well except the plug area of the printed circuit board had terminals that were coming up and crossing circuits. I tried gluing them down in place but it was still crossing each time I would install the plug.
So today's job was to install a disconnect in the wiring harness. I found an unused 16 slot plug set from the LS harness. Added wires to get to the 14 I needed. Some of the colors did not match up, but now I do not have to unplug the cluster each time I pull it out. Check it out. All soldered, shrink wrapped and taped. |
Re: Gauge cluster rewire
I'm intending to do the same thing, but for a little different reason. I'll pin a battery hot and GMLAN wires into that plug, as well as the usual cluster wires. I'd like to play around a little with some other cluster options, particularly some DIY electronic options. If I install a common GT-150 connector like yours, I can easily swap clusters entirely without having to repin anything.

Re: Gauge cluster rewire
That's a cool idea. This plug was under the Underhood fuse box on a 2003. I have swiped a couple to keep on hand. Once you learn how the terminals come out of the plugs, the possibilities are endless.

Here's a pic of the cluster about to be installed. Next time I remove it, no worries about the printed circuit plug.
