Good 70 SWB

3 Attachment(s)
This is my first SWB truck and my plan it take it down to the frame and rebuild it back up. This is my first attempt at anything like this so we will see how it goes. I know one of the first things I have to acquire is some patience. I am hoping this project will help me out with that.

This is a 1970 Truck. I have a 350 with a 700R4 that will be going into it.

Ok so lets take a closer look at what I am working with. For the most part this truck is in good shape. Previous owner (Who is a good friend and Neighbor and can view his project here) Had replaced cab corners, rocker panels.

Here is interior of cab and so we have some work to do here.

We have some areas to replace on the passenger bed side around the wheel well and corner.

A picture of the engine that has been rebuilt and will be going back in.

Next we will start tearing it down to the frame for sandblasting

Since the bed was most of the way off I started with it. It went pretty quick. I removed all the panels individually.

Ok cab is all disconnected and ready to be taken off. I built a cab stand to put it on and I can roll around as needed. Not much to look at but it did the job.

Ok so now we are up to date. I have the chassis down to just the frame. All suspension removed including front cross member. So I now know I can tear it apart. I just hope I can get it back together. I will be looking to get this sand blasted soon. I'll post picts as soon as I do.

Ok my frame, A-arms, Crossmember, and trailing arms are all back. I took the frame over to a local place and they sandblasted and gave it all a coat of primer. It's Looking much better now.

Looks good! Will be a nice truck with the frame off. I wasn't going to do that on mine but decided if I wanted to be great I had to take it to bare frame and do it right :chevy:

Even though this will be a daily driver and certainly not perfect. I wanted it to be clean and also mechanically sound. I will be replacing most bushings, ball joints, etc as necessary as I rebuild. Plus it is a greats learning experience and a lot of satisfaction.

Frame is now painted. Took it over to buddies house "his project here" also that is his suburban in the background. I went with gloss black as it was a little cheaper and hoping less dirt would stick to it :). I think it turn out good. I have to thank Steve and Kevin for there help on this as it is my first restore they have been great helping me along.

Parts and frame look great! Where are you buying your front suspension parts? ball joints, tie rods, bushing etc.? I need to do the same stuff to our 69.
That is a sweet looking burb in the background!

I got all the A-arm, front sway bar, and trailing arm bushings from LMC. I used the polyurethane bushings. I also replaced the stock springs and spindles with 4" drop springs in the back and 2.5" drop spindles in the front with 1" drop springs. These were purchased from American Classic Truck Parts. Will post pictures of the springs and spindles soon.

Got the rear end cleaned up and put back on. Replaced U-bolts and went with 4" drop springs. Replaced the trailing arm bushings with new polyurethane ones. When I purchased the truck the previous owner had just put on new brakes and hubs so good to go there.
