Where to Cut/Splice/Weld - 49 Dash

Looking for opinions from those smarter/better/more experienced.

The lowest part of my dash is rusted through. I wanted the stock look, so I bought some better metal from a donor via PaulsPickupParts (thanks again). Now I'm trying to decide where the best place to cut and splice this new piece to the old dash might be.
All opinions welcome. See pic.

I'd make sure that their cuts are square and cut the dash to match. The small strrips should be covered by the speaker cover and won't nee much if any metal work after welding and the section between the gauge hole and the speaker hole should be reasonably easy to get at with a flap wheel or other tools to smooth the weld out. Same with the two lower areas.

Fair point about the speaker cover, and the flat surfaces to clean up.

To be clear though, you would get into the gauge area? I had fears about getting that perfect to get the gauges back in.
