200-4R shudder

I made a hard emergency stop that resulted in the engine/trans shuddering wildly like it was going to break off the mounts.
After driving 40 miles or so back home the shudder is greatly reduced but it is still there even in neutral.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
Ron

Shudder in neutral? What makes you think its the trans then? Shudders only apply when the vehicle is moving IMO.

Is this what happens when you don't have a brake switch to unlock the converter?

Re: 200-4R shudder

the brake switch does not control the TCC, the brake switch disengages the TCC when you press on brake when the TCC is engaged (applied).....

Be interesting to find out the problem. I run a relay off the brake switch thru a T- shifter switch to trans. Like having 5 gears. Hopefully ther is a cheap fix for Ronald. . Sounds like it could be a torque converter problem. Maybe some trans gurus will jump in.

Shuddering running in neutral, foot of the brake, on level ground?
You broke a mount, most likely.

Torque convertor clutch went bad after maybe 1000 miles on my old built 200-4r in a 79 c10 I had.

Drive it down to Albany on 87 at around 75 MPH and see if it still shudders when you get to Albany....If it does not shudder any more....issue fixed.

Thanks for the replies. I think it was carb flooding because after driving awhile it went away. Got a new carb and no problems since.

Re: 200-4R shudder

Glad you figured it out...
At any time during the "shudder" did you smell gasoline or notice smoke coming out of the tailpipe.....

when people hear the word shudder it appears they relate it to the TCC/trans....maybe it was running rough enough to feel like the engine was coming off the mounts.
