KOOGLIE MOOGLIE

just when I thought we were out of the woods the darn new dual hard fuel line fittings don't fit, they are way too small, the holes in the float bowls appear to be huge like 7/8ths and these fittings are like 5/8ths

it ain't easy fellers, it aint easy

Thanks for the part number. have you used them on the L31 Vortec heads specifically, I believe they are a different animal, and maybe more important have you used them with the Hooker Comp headers, I think the headers are the issue here

Yes, they fit the L31 heads perfectly. I have not used them with the Hooker headers though.

Yea, you need a 7/8-20 adapter to I think 3/8. I don't know if it's inverted flare or NPT though.

I just went though this because I converted everything to black anodized AN fittings, and I literally just took a second freelance Webdev job to afford this stuff.

Also, I decided to go with the Quickfuel Slayer 750 on my 383, it seems to work great so far.

Gregski, is it a 4160 or a 4150? You mentioned 4160, then later 4150. I'd like to know as I might decide to go with this rather than the $400 Edelbrock I was looking at. As I also have a 1974 GMC with 350ci V8.

I bought it as a Classsic Holley 4160 Part# 0-80457SA 600 CFM but I converted it to a 4150 using their kit.

If I had to do it all over again I would have bought the 4150 model Part# 0-80783C also a Classic Holley.

both have vacuum secondaries

both have electric chokes

but the 80783 already comes with the center hung float bowls with the dual inlet, the only thing it lacks is the sight glass in the fuel bowls, and it is made of heavy Zinc instead of light Aluminum, but still a better carb

if price is a deciding factor look for these on eBay sold by Holley Performance as referbished you can get them for under $300 and they are done by the Holley guys / factory (dang it I just gave away my secret)

here's a pic of the better 80783 4150 style carb

Yup they call it an INVERTED FLARE FITTING
Inverted Flare Fitting 3/8" Tube; Fuel Bowl Thread 7/8-20 (A) x Inlet Thread 5/8-18 (B)
PART# 26-26
Suggested Retail: $12.04
Your Price:$10.84

I swear I am gonna have to get a job at Walmart as a greeter just to afford this stuff, as Holley nickel and dimes you to death for every single little piece, ha ha

Would you be willing to send me the entire parts list in a PM? Or in the thread. Or just go with the 4150 over the kit? My choice right now is between this and the Edelbrock 14063 (noNEGR)

just another reason to convert from the 4160 style carb to the 4150, this transfer tube that connects the fuel bowls is a PIA when changing jets or power valves and the rubber gaskets rip and tear

so my carb came with a spec sheet, which was wrong by the way, it said it came with the Purple vacuum secondary spring, well it didn't it had the plain one

moral of the story gentlemen, please check what you have installed don't trust no written word, ha ha

so we remove the appendage and remove the cap / lid

first we gotta remove the electric choke housing and slide that out of the way, PIA, the Greg does not like dependencies and prefers a nice isolated stand alone modular setup, in other words why does the electric choke have to block/hang off the vacuum pod

now we thought we were too cool for school and that we could git er done on the carb on the truck, but turns out that rubber plunger/diaphraghm is so pesky that we decided to remove the entire vacuum pod and put the new lid on it on the work bench

and here it be in all its glory back on the carb back on the truck

be super careful with that microscopic clip washer that holds the push rod on the cam lever thingie it is practically invisible to the human eye, lol

and my God this is the best single investment you can make to your Holley carb, it takes a 20 minute job (replacing springs) and cuts it down to 2 minutes (that includes chugging a beer) ha ha

Oh My God, after weeks and weeks of tuning SHE is a BEAST bro, runs strong, always did, but now strong and smooth.

Just yesterday a new larger .035" accelerator pump nozzle aka "squirter" fixed the delayed Vroo Vroooooooooooom when you floor it in neutral, now it is nice and smooth throughout the RPM range

A lighter tall yellow secondaries spring fixed the hesitation upon acceleration when in gear (the carb came with a plain spring), now that's smooth.

She wants to run bro, I get that feeling she's like a Filly that can smell the fresh cut grass on the race track and just wants to run!!! So Cool

Driving Rusty to work every day this week just to shake out any sillyness.

I just need to fix the exhaust leak [AGAIN] and she'll be ready for another Dyno Test straight after Pay Day next week, ha ha

Looks like a gasket problem, not a header problem.
Round port gaskets may have corrected that leak.

I so should have listened and kept my round port gaskets and used those instead

so back to the parts house I went looking for some crusher gaskets, only to come away with these beauties that set me back $35 bones

how in the world they is reusable I'll never know

so did I put them on? Um no!

wait what?

I wanted to put them on, but those Felpro manifold gaskets were stuck to the enjin block and I didn't feel like scraping brand new gaskits off, then and there, so I said what the hewk lets give them a go with these them headers, and guess what they worked beautifully, SNMFT - Still No More Frustrating Ticking

so overall it was a good day, I fixed my truck, and my countrymen beat North Ireland in an Euro Cup 2016 match, what? you don't pretend to be a soccer fan every 4 years weather you need to or not?

replying to my own thread, wishing I would have kept those metal round port gaskets
