Re: Starting Shortbed Conversion Tomorrow
Like some of the articles say, make X reference marks on the frame. Measure multiple time then BURN IT IN.. Yes do the Z cut, you will be glad you did

Re: Starting Shortbed Conversion Tomorrow
While the link that Advanced Design posted is good and another way to do the work, I believe this is the better way to do the job.
This link has been in the FAQ and is the Z method others have mentioned above. He has lots of great pictures thru the process. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=123624 |

Since we know these guys and used their boxing plates, this is the way we did the frame work. I wouldn't hesitate to do it to another truck. |
Re: Starting Shortbed Conversion Tomorrow
olsmokey,
I literally just did this conversion a couple months ago. The only thing that i did different than what the threads or Gears did was i put the phish plate on the outside of the frame. It was alot easier to weld and i kinda like the look. measure three times, then just go for it. Now, the interesting part is that on gears they used a saws-all for the z cut on the round portion, well i tried this and decided to try something else. I honestly used a jig saw with a metal blade and it worked surprisingly easy! It really is easy, and it will surprise you how simple it is, just do your research and if you have a direct question, ask it here, the help here has been awesome!!! good luck and please post pics. |
