A Turbo 4.3?

Hey all! just putting my feelers out on this one. I have run into quite the assortment of information regarding the 90 degree 4.3L v6, and it being turbocharged.

Recently I came across a garret turbo off a 7.3l Powerstroke. I snagged it pretty cheap and ive been wanting to tear into a 4.3 project for a while and i may end up doing so.

single garret turbo + 8psi of boost + freshly rebuilt 4.3 stock bottom end = ?

Id love for you guys to maybe fill in the blanks, honestly id like to know what that setup listed would produce power wise? Or maybe some of you guys out there have experience with the 4,3? im new to the turbo world but i think i know enough to be dangerous;)

PS: not looking for anything crazy for HP, i thought maybe if I could build one to feel like a mild 350 drive ability wise, you know?

i look forward to reading your replies. thanks! :metal:

Maybe just use a 350? Save a bunch of cash that way...

Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

I knew I would get that for a reply! Haha I spose I always could but I really want to expand on this idea, I want to know more about the 4.3 set up still.

In S10's 350's and 4.3 pretty much get the same mpg. Often the 350 wins for some reason from what I have read. I helped do a swap, and we were looking for tips.

If the 4.3 could knock down better mpg then I would consider it a solid idea, but it doesn't often times.

If you want a hot V6 that can get meanifull mpg, and is cheap. Look at the lfx engine with the 6speed.

Look up the Typhoon/Syclone. GM made a factory-turbocharged 4.3 liter 4WD that was really fast. There's a lot of info out there on it.

You don't mention what you're going to put it into. To move a lot of weight you want torque more than horsepower, so that might be a consideration as well.

Good call truckster, if this build came to forition it would probably end up in a 1978 single cab short bed chevy.

Re: A Turbo 4.3?

My vote: Sell the 4.3, get yourself a descent 350 and slap the whistler on that!! :D

I would take a stab at what kind of HP and torque numbers you might expect, but I have zero experience with turbos other than driving big rigs... So I'll refrain from pulling a number out of thin air.

One thing for sure, it's going to take some work to put it all together.
