NJ 1968 C10 Stepside build

WEll, I bought the truck, because I always wanted one. A older friend had one when we were kids, 1968 GMC Stepside, dark metallic blue and a 454. thing was sweet.

after spending some time in the hospital because of a motocross crash, i grew up, a little bit, sold the dirt bike and bought a 1968 C10 Stepside. I wanted to get a driver that I thought I'd wrench on during weekends or over the winter.
Once I got into it and realized what the condition of the truck was, I decided to go all out and build what I wanted.

So I'm building a restomod truck, Ridetech air bags, complete Ridetech setup, Baer Brakes, I have a 2018 GM 6.0 6L90E, 3.73 Truetrac, and so on.

Here's some pics so far:

Clearly you are doing this the right way!:metal:

What are your plans for paint color and wheels combo?

It's tough stepping away from an mx bike, I feel your pain. Both kinds. The kind of pain when you realize your days of getting big air are done, and the kind of pain that 30+ years of riding brings.

Thank you. Hopefully it’ll live up to my expectations

Paint color. I like a nice metallic dark blue, but no purple shades and either gray or red accents. GM has some nice dark blues, I’ve been taking pictures of car colors I like as I drive around.

Wheels, looking at something like this

Maybe 22’s and 20’s

Yup, that KTM was a painful lesson in learning to grow up at 51. LOL.

NJ68stepside; You have certainly made some progress! I did rust repair on my cab, but it was the usual cab corners, rockers, etc. I think I would have done like you given the roof.

Keep up the great work, I look forward to seeing more progress (and pics).

Finally mounted the doors. They’re not aligned 100%, my skills and patience are limited today. I’ll mess with it more next weekend.

But for the curious ones that wanted to know how the Dynacorn doors and cab line up, here’s a video.

Looking good. Just a few more tweaks.

Thanks. We’re having heat wave this weekend. Hopefully the AC in my garage will keep up so I can attempt door alignment again and hang the fenders.

Slowly getting there. Working in getting the engine running and air bag suspension all working before sending it out for bodywork.

Working on connecting brakes. But need to connect hydroboost. Need water lines, air lines and controls, and mount the controls in places where they don’t interfere with suspension system.

This it taking forever.

It's gonna be one sic lookin ride with all your choices. You're right, it is a ton of work... especially when it's a one man show. Sourcing everything needed is a big part of the timeline when building a custom vehicle. What harness are you running with your LT? Have your selected your gauges yet? Buckets or bench? My project is similar to yours, so I guess I'm partial.:chevy:

Re: NJ 1968 C10 Stepside build

Thanks! I can’t wait to get it done. No cool trucks up here in the NE like I see down south.

I have a L96 iron block 6.0 and a 6L90 transmission, so I just sent out that system to be modified to run in my truck.
I got the Dakota dash setup with the white background
For seats, I got the front seats from a 2017 Silverado. Fits in the truck perfectly. I wanted a high back seat and nice center console. And the drivers seat is powered. So win win there. And you ain’t lying about time delays to get parts. Wrench, find out I need another fitting, wrench on something else till that part comes in a week later. Wrench again, get another part next week. LOL

I just can’t believe how much time it’s taking to get this all done. All I have is the weekends. If I get 1 day to work on it. I’m thrilled.

Oh and if you’re looking for paint colors. Check out Harley Davidson. I’m going with Billiard blue and black on the roof. That’s about the nicest blue I came across so far. So hard to choose. I must have 30 pictures saved on my PC.

Very nice build! I know that new cab will save a lot of time with the resto-mod. How is the overall quality of the cab? Does it seem to be as well put together as the original?

Great job on the frame; that is in getting it straight again and in the repaint, looks really good!

Looking forward to how the rest turns out.

Re: NJ 1968 C10 Stepside build

Thanks,

I'm not a body man, but it all looks good, doors fit LOL. We'll see what the guy says when he goes to paint it. But everything is there the same as the original. I wish I could find a place around me that could dip the cab, like they do with new cars and just get all the rust prevention in the areas that need it.
