70 Jimmy build

Figured I’d start a build thread to keep track of everything. I just got this 70 Jimmy custom 4x4 back in March. I had a hugger orange 72 blazer back when I was in high school (had bought it when I was 14) and ended up selling it to get into import cars. Always regretted that one, especially having sold it for 2500 bucks. Figured I’d get back into one and came across this 70 Jimmy. It’s been a little bit of a basket case so far, but on the flip slide the truck is pretty straight and has very little rust. Here’s some pictures when I first got it.

Loading it on the trailer I actually spun one of the axle tubes. Was really bummed as I was hoping to be able to get it drivable over a weekend but sourcing an axle ended up taking a while. Used a rear end from a 69 c10, chopped off the trailing arm mounts and welded perches on. the c10 axle is about an inch and a half wider. New drums and shoes while it was apart. I will be swapping the 3.73 posi from the broken rear end back into this at some point. Also got a new windshield in it (that was an extreme pain in the ass and the seal looks wonky but, it doesn’t leak or move so it’s staying)

Since then, girlfriend got me a new steering wheel for my birthday (she’s awesome), threw a Holley 670 carb on which runs a lot better than the quadrajet that the previous owner had rigged the choke wide open, and the secondaries were stuck shut. Currently trying to get the steering column sorted, it appears that I’ve put it together wrong and will be once again pulling it apart and probably having someone help me compress the spring while tightening it.

That 15” steering wheel looks good! You are making good progress.👍🏽
