Just looked at this truck.

Owner just pulled it out of the building you can see across the road. I saw it in the old building a couple of times when I was driving by a few years ago. It's a strange one. Had a few parts swapped around and has had previous body work done years ago. Pretty rusty again. I didn't think to check the VIN tag to see what it said. It has a small back window and big ignition switch bezel. Has a tilt which isn't listed. I guess it has possibilities. He is supposed to call me when he gets home. His wife said she drove it 2 years ago. LockDoc |

Re: Just looked at this truck.
Go get it...
Looks like it has had its share of parts swapped over the years. Looks like a 67 cab and box. |

Doesn't look like enough digits in the VIN. If it's been redacted for security, never mind.
But the numbers in pic look hinky if unaltered. |
Re: Just looked at this truck.
I guess it's a '71. Small window/big ignition switch bezel, ey? One of those headscratchers.

I never got a call last night. The guys wife said she wasn't sure if they were ready to sell it yet when I talked to her. I wish he would have called, being curious, I had a few questions I was going to ask him about it. '68OrangeSunshine: Good eye, since it is not my truck I decided to cover the last 3 digits of the VIN. and the plate. It's not that far from me so I may drift back over that way this weekend. Re: Just looked at this truck.
Could that possibly be,,, A one of a kind, built one piece at time, by the man himself Johnny Cash. Was there a custom looking Cadillac nearby lol.
Nice looking truck, good luck. NGN Nick |
Re: Just looked at this truck.
Just curious if this one is near Searsboro or Lynnville- I used to see a red '71/72 tucked back into a shed along hwy F62 on the north side of the road but its been gone from that shed for probably a year or two now. All you could see what the front end as it was backed into the shed among some farm equipment.
Guessing its a '67 cab on a '71? chassis, its got a NP205 transfer case and IIRC the 205 didn't show up until 1969. A T221 would've been available in '67. Also, aren't the wing window handles '67 only? Just noticed the passenger side one in the first post. |
Re: Just looked at this truck.
I believe...
If the V.I.N. starts with "KE2..." it's a '72. '71 would start with "KE1..." Having said that, the rear view mirror mount, small rear window and lack of extra screw hole in the doors means it's a lovable mongrel, not a purebred. |
Re: Just looked at this truck.
Cool truck. If given the chance I'd buy it. Pull the clip, cab, box, restore/powder coat the chassis, all new brakes, steering, lines, rebuild the drive train, similar to a restoration. Then put the clip, cab, box on and drive it.

KE1 means 71 and down 1/2 ton 4WD. Also look at the model number on the SPID. Shows 3/4 ton. 72 would have been CKE2 for chevy. But, it does look like some numbers are missing on the end of the VIN. Smitty |

Yes, it's the same one. That is where I first saw it too. He had moved it into the new building is why it was gone from the old one. LockDoc |
Re: Just looked at this truck.
Short perhaps rust?? nice rig no matter how original. What would you do with it?

Not sure I'm even interested in it. If it was cheap enough I might be. LockDoc |
Re: Just looked at this truck.
So, it's a '67 cab and either doors or just wing vents. Then there is the later hand brake and instrument cluster. yep, one thing I always loved about these 67-72s and Chevys in general. They are very swap happy vehicles.

There are a few over by What Cheer too in a farmer's yard, two pickups and a Blazer, I always look to see if they are still there and the wife laughs at me every time. |

Re: Just looked at this truck.
Blazers had the 205 as an option in 69, everything else got the 205 in ‘70, not that it really matters here.
|
Re: Just looked at this truck.
Correct. The '69 Blazer was the first factory GM 4wd with automatic transmission, therefore first year for NP205. All other K-models had TH350/NP205 become available in '70
How about that foot parking brake in the small window cab? |

Well, no call. I went by there again today and it was still sitting there. I didn't have time to stop though. LockDoc |
Re: Just looked at this truck.
Frustrating when it's his move. Maybe he's sitting there thinking "If he asks again I'll sell it to him. If he doesn't, I'll keep it ;)

Re: Just looked at this truck.
Well he can keep it , it’s a mess from what i see

Re: Just looked at this truck.
I'll have to disagree with the last two posts. I see the work most of them need. When all this swapping around, piecing together was first done I bet that was a sharp truck. Especially with 4wds, there's more to it than original correct builds. I'd go with the back window and build a cool '67-looking 4wd. It all depends on the price to me.
