73-87 OEM Wheel Swaps

I tried using the search to find a good thread for this, but didn't find much. So if there isn't a good picture/info thread for this, lets get one going! Post pics! If you have any other info on adapters, spacers, lug nuts etc that were needed to make it work, this would be a great resource! :bo2:

Nothing needed to swap them, just strait up bolt them on. Tons of them out there with newer style oem wheels on them.

I've heard some guys say that a different lug nut was needed to incorporate factory center caps etc..

Like this style which requires an outside thread on the lug nuts to secure the center cap

You need a set of lug nuts like this off ebay to make the newer 3/4 ton 8 lug wheels bolt up to our trucks.
Mine is the brown truck in post 8.

I don't have pics of mine installed yet, as my suspension is in a million pieces right now. I did a search on fleabay for "73-87 conversion lugnut". Got a set shipped to the house for $37. The lugnuts have external threads so the fake plastic lugnuts can screw down on the real lugnut, holding the center in place.

Test fitting my Hummer H2 rims before buying bigger tires. The stock Hummer tires (315/70/17's) are tad too small for a 6" lift. (about 34.6 tall) Probably be getting some 37x12.5's once I scrape up the cash.
I had to buff the rim a tiny bit with a die grinder to get it to slide over my front hub all the way.

MAN I really like the h2s.... and the stock tire size would be perfect for my 4in lifted k5

Here is another of mine. Like TexasJeff said, all you need are the lug nuts. They fit the hubs perfect.

So do the newer lug nuts fit the old studs then? Or is there something else to be done to make the newer caps fit?

Lug pattern is the same. Conversion lug nuts need to be purchased.
