new clutch master retro fit

well I had some time this weekend to work on my truck. As you know the 60-62 m/t used a hydraulic clutch. This is a good system but the clutch master is part of the brake master cylinder, a single circuit system.
This is a problem if you want to install a dual master (either for drums or disc brakes) I know some members have had questions on what to do for the clutch if you want to add a booster . Some have used the CPP or MP brakes set up but they are about 500.00 for there set up
I bought this kit from MP brakes a while back, but you could get the Wilwood master from summit and fab up your own bracket and push rod

3'' 5/16 bolt,nut wahsers and a spacer

this is the oe cylinder and to the left of it are two bolts thats were the bracket will be mounted to
Attachment 456920

this is the bracket
Attachment 456921

and here it is mounted up. Of course things hit a snag when the bottom bolt rounded off, thus the diffrent bolt
Attachment 456922

scribe a mark round the bottom hole and remove the bracket

one more pic of how the bracket mounts
Attachment 456927
drill a 5/8 hole , use a cemrt punch an drill a pilot hole to keep thimgs lined up
Attachment 456928
and this is how it will look mounted up the 3/8 spacers go between the bracket and the master cylinder as you can see the hard line has been removed

since I an doing this in stages the old master cylinder will stay in place untill I swap it out, so I used a threded 1/4 plug as seen in this picture taken from below
Attachment 456942
the old hard line is to short so I had to bend one up. I used an old trick my pops showed me, use a wire coat hanger to mock up were to bend the new line then use it as a guide

That's a nice clean looking job. Did you have to drill the pedal to attach the pushrod, or was the hole already there?

slepysal 04-28-2009 01:20 AM

Re: new clutch master retro fit

Thanks capt.the hole was already there, I used a clevis pin and cotter pin , the only hole to drill was thru the fire wall.
One thing i forgot to mentioned was that I disconected the clutch pedal from the original clutch pushrod one bolt so it is easy to go "back to stock" if needed.

So far so good!! I have had no problems with the shifting. The one thing I don't like is that even though the bracket is well made it "flex" a little. So to fix it I fabed up a bracket from one of the cylinder mounting bolts to the fender well easy fix
