Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime

I thought I had a big problem with my new Alternator setup. It just pans out as ignorance on my part. I got a special pulley that uses an HTD belt just like my Dry Sump Pump. I thought it wasn't going to work. After talking to the guys at Jones Racing where it came from. I thought I was going to have to convert to a different alternator. Nope! I go by the Alternator shop this morning. Tada he plucks out the spacer and my pulley fits lol.

This is my new drive setup. It's a 49 tooth on the crank and 22 on the alternator.

It's so cute. Lol Hell I'm glad it will work. I ordered two custom length belts today.

That's some serious drive power for the alternator.....!!

The reason behind the overkill is the instant load coming off the trans brake.

Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime

I was also turning the alternator too fast with the V belt deal. I couldn’t get a replacement v pulley for my splined drive. So I was kinda forced to adapt.

What do you do when you're bored? Find something to entertain you. I repurposed a header tube from Blue and made a custom exhaust extension for Whitey. This tube had over 160hp running through it. I think it will handle the little 350. Lol

On a side note. Even if you don't have an ATV or a Motorcycle that little jack is pretty handy.

So much easier to just remove a center section, just saying, only thing Ford got right LOL.

I went with a Frankland quick change rear end. With my 4:11 ring gear in it I have 128 gear ratios to chose from that I can change in 15 minutes. I think they run from 2.11 to about 8.50 or so. It also looks cool. So there's that. Thank you for your time.

You think a Franklin QC would stand up to the torque load that un-light body, BBC, & those tires slap it with?

Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime

It's a QC-80 case from a guy I pitted for when I was young. I took it to the Frankland factory in Pennsylvania and had them build it for 1000 hp. Moser axles. I'm running a Bicknel torque arm with the triple biscuit to take up some of the shock. I had it made to fit my 53 3100 and my 12.88" Wilwood brakes. It's going behind the 1000 hp blown 292 I'm building. we will see which one blows up first.

I've always heard of them used in various racing/street apps but not so much in a drag-strip app similar to this. I always assumed they were strong/tough but wasn't sure (didn't know) if they can take the abuse of a heavy vehicle (>3k lbs) & high shock drag-strip venue launches. Appreciate the insight.

This one had sentimental value to me. It took $7K to get it to that level.

Mick I wish I had something like that to work with. I'm stuck with my old Dana for now. Looking forward to see how your QC deal and build turns out.

Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime

No real updates. All my motor stuff is still out. We are two months in on rods and pistons. It's PRI Show week so all the performance folks shut down to go there. I'll be lucky if the rods and pistons show up before the end of the year. My new lifters came in though. we went with BAM lifters. They are DLC coated axle no bushing or bearing. My rear end is sitting in the floor. I need to put it back in but that's no big deal. I just hope I don't get hung out till the last minute. Our first race is the last weekend of February.

Well the rear is back in. Ken came out yesterday and helped me bleed the brakes. The money I wasted on this gear experiment would have more than paid for new slicks that I need.

I guess the light was shining just right though the window. Ken noticed this wave inside the bed. I guess it may be a good thing the tailgate is bolted on. It may have saved other parts of the bed when the frame broke.

I wondered if the bed suffered any stress from the frame rail issue & that sure suggests it did. Doesn't look too bad though so there's that....

Progress is looking good.
Merry Christmas!

Yep it is what it is (in a Forrest Gump voice). It is what it is. This poor old truck. I wonder if it could have had a better life? Merry Christmas to Everyone.

No parts right now other than new slicks. I'm still waiting on rods and pistons. I hope I get to race in February.

This is where I need to be in six weeks. I got word from Rick that my heads were ready. I also got word from Donnel that my rods and pistons should be here next week.
