How much oil should be lubricating the top end of a 235?

Tonight I was able to plug the filter holes and use a drill to test the oil flow to the top end of my 235 by putting a screwdriver end into the distributor hole and spinning the drill.

Oil came out of each hole in all six rockers slowly. It didn't squirt, just sort of slowly bubbled out Then I realized... I don't know how much oil should be coming out. I've never seen a fresh engine do this test.

I assume my drill is spinning slower than the distributor will, so maybe I never will truly see the correct amount, but is a small bubbling up of oil on each rocker good enough for this test so I can start putting things back together?

235 lifters should be hydraulic, the cam needs to be spinning to pump oil thru them

I was just looking at the holes in the top of the rocker arms as reference in this case. There were some oil passage changes in 58-59 I think.

When I adjusted the valves on mine it was slinging oil and making a mess, but it was running, not using the method you used.

When working 235 engines the cars with automatic transmissions had hydraulic lifters factory in pickups the 235 I found solid lifters maybe factory or maybe not . Solid lifters do add more torque . The 216 for the most part the oil pump only pumps oil to the rocker arms at about 14 psi and when setting the valves it makes a mess .
I have one 235 engine that looks like some one added a fitting to the top of the valve cover to get more oil to the top end and I have never taken the valve cover off to see what it really is .
