Correct but those grounds go to the front marker lights, there are no black ground wires going to the side marker lights.

Yes it uses the grounds thru the turn signal/park lampo on the front. When 12V for park lights is run thru the brown wire, it goes back to the front lamp thru the blue, then to ground. When turn signal is on, the blue line becomes the alternating 12V feed, and interrupts the ground that was in the side marker blue feed (thus it blinks). Took me a while to figure out that the front was the ground, but still not sure if all the science behind it is set in my mind yet.

Thank you Bill, so on your '81 do the front and side markers alternate when they flicker or do they flicker in unison?

Re: Restoring Rusty

The side marker grounds through the signal lamp except when the signal lamp is powered.
Light Blue is LH Turn power
Dark Blue is RH Turn power
Brown is Parking lamp power

The peanut bulbs in the side markers are connected from one of the blue wires to a brown wire.
The 1157 bulb is the only one that's connected directly to a ground.

It's behavior is more complex than I stated originally.

The side marker and front turns alternate when the parking lamps are on.
They operate in sync when they are off.

The 168 peanut bulb in the side marker lamp actually has two hot leads when the turns and parking lamps are powered so it shuts off.
When the turnsignal flasher is in the off part of its' cycle or just plain off there's a path to ground through the turnsignal filament so the side marker bulb lights.

Slick way to get a single filament bulb and two wires to do the job of a two filament bulb with three wires.

Ah, confirmed! thank you so much Hatzie. I recon Jay was right after all, it all depends on the condition, ha ha.

Agree from the engineering perspective, totally disagree from the user perspective, ha ha! troubleshooting this was a nightmare!

194 168 are the same size glass envelope peanut bulb.
168 is actually higher wattage more light. I assumed that was the bulb in use in that socket.
I'd have to look at a 73-86 CK bulb chart to be sure which one is used there.

Well dang! The do alternate with the parking lights on. Whew, I thought I was losing it.

Indeed and it will be so nice to have two out of three trucks with LS drive trains, and wait till you see what I have in store for Dusty aka the third one!

You have a full on fabrication shop on the side of your house yet the pavers and house look like there’s nothing to see there move along.

ha ha you mean my single angle grinder, a hand drill, and a BFH? and I do vacuum about 1/8th of metal dust off the concrete once in a while and just got a pressure washer so may actually try and clean the patio

Don’t forget the tumbler.

I’m not sure which is more impressive - the fabrication or the clean up.

"L8T" 6.6 liter gen-V out of a 2020 Silverado 2500?!?

That's going to be da' bomb! Can't wait to see it!

so we almost made it one year without a true LS related issue

however yesterday I replaced this little guy (pronounced: "expensive" $73) aka the fuel pressure regular

the problem started right after I replaced that front driver side turn signal light bulb, so of course I went chasing electrical problem, ha ha

the issue was that the truck went from starting on the very first try each and every time to never wanting to start on the first try but always 100% of the time simply starting on the second try

after checking all my electrical connections (grounds, grounds, and more grounds, ha ha) checking every fuse and every relay, I really dreaded having to drop the fuel tank to replace my brand new Spectra fuel pump which everyone talks bad about yet it has been wonderful for me - so I said well the fuel pressure regulator is expensive but at least it's really easy to get to, ha ha

That’s cool. Glad he’s finally able to get out and about.

Are you experiencing some weird gravitational issue?

ha ha, I noticed that right after I uploaded it from my silly iPhone (sometimes it has a mind of it's own)
