Dipstick Tube Measurement

1 Attachment(s)
I've been trying to locate an SBC 4x4 Dipstick and Tube on the parts board with a WTB without success, so I am going to try and repair the non-4x4 one that came with the truck.

Could someone provide me with the length measurement of the missing mounting tab shown in the picture? I believe the one I have is what would have been installed on a 67 327...if that matters. I will attempt to weld on the missing tab.

Thanks in advance.

I can't help you with the measurement, but my approach would be to mock up the assembly of the tube and motor. Then fab up the tab and bolt it to the proper location...then tack it to the broken tang on the tube. Disassemble and finish the weld.

No measurement mistakes and it all lands where it needs to. EDIT: OR cut the existing tang off the tube and make it all new and tack it to the tube with the above approach. That might turn out better so long as you don't burn through the tube.

2nd what sick472 said. I know this is not the for sale page but the dip stick and tube set up you got there is what I need for my 67 327 set up , not easy to come by I missed one here on the site and can't seem to find it anywhere in the market, the exact same way and with the tab, could be me but I'm still looking. Oh yeah my tab disindergrated like that to.

Re: Dipstick Tube Measurement

Thank you both for the suggestions. Sounds like a good idea to fabricate it in place. The end that gets inserted into the block is bent a little, so I will have to straiten that out first. There is a small split at the bend that I also need to repair.

NGN, I didn't realize that the 67 327 version was also hard to locate. Based on that I am glad to have it and hopefully can make decent repairs.

We just listed this GM NOS 67 C/K small block V8 oil dipstick and tube assembly on the parts board, if interested the details can be seen in the below linked F/S thread. Thanks, Mel :chevy:
