1994 Chevy Blazer 4 wheel drive - Field find

5 Attachment(s)
My oldest son turns 16 in Nov. We needed a first car for him. We had been driving past this Blazer the last couple years that was parked next to a barn at a farm 20 min from our house.
The PO stated it had a fuel delivery problem and the tank was already partially taken out/apart. I also came with a new fuel pump (more on that later), a new battery and new spark plugs and wires. All of which needed to be installed.

We dragged it home Friday and got to work Sunday.

Here were our discoveries:
Tank is shot...One large hole and a ton of rust.
The rear fuel line is shot.
The rear brake line has a leak in it - Since been replaced
The "New" fuel pump is for a truck not a Blazer.

New fuel delivery parts have been ordered.

The plans will be to get it mechanically sound then make it look cool. Fender flares and new rims and tires and rust/paint repair are a must.

Let the fun (father and son) project begin.

I always liked the 2 door Blazers/Tahoes. I had a 92, NY rust got the best of it. Put alot of parts in it, sold it, not long later saw it in the junkyard. Now I have 2 4 door versions, one lifted and one soon to be lowered.

I have always liked 2 doors myself. My son really likes it as well.

9-8 Update

Well we got it running....It idles rough but we are stoked. I will most likely send out the injectors to be cleaned or buy some new ones. In my experience with EFI, when motors sit for any period of time the injectors usually get gummed up. This can cause a rough idle.

We had to replace the front brake line as it ruptured hitting the brakes getting it off of the ramps. Next we have to bleed/inspect the brakes....Once I get the brakes done, I want my son to drive it around the block.

We have been chasing brake leaks for what seems like weeks. We replaced the wheel cylinders, most every line that ran along the frame and the front brake calipers and 1 brake hose.

After plugs, wires a cap and rotor and putting the truck in time, it now runs great. I missed out on some late model 18" rims/tires. I will keep looking.

We need to bleed the brakes (again) and we can take it for a drive.

Well we got the brakes sorted out. They sold us the incorrect brake shoes and it causes issues with the wheel cylinders. We picked up some cheap 18" rims off of a Silverado.

We took the Blazer out for a short drive to get some fresh fuel. My son Cooper got to drive his Blazer for the first time. He likes driving it more than wrenching on it...ha ha

The next fix is to replace the circuit board in the wiper motor. A new one came with the Blazer. The wipers and window washer are currently inoperable.

We will continue to pick away at cosmetic improvements..

Thanks....my son has just been driving it. We did recently replace the A/C compressor and the belt tensioner and a new serpentine belt while we here at it. The bearing went out in the A/C compressor and sounded terrible.

For Christmas we got him a new stereo and speakers as the OEM set up only had one functioning speaker. This spring/summer we will tackle some of the body and paint work...

The body is pretty straight. After we fix the rockers we will probably sand it down and shoot it white. That's what interested me driving past it all of those years. The body looked in pretty good shape.

Thanks

Thanks, he's a good kid and gets all A's so he deserves it. He will really appreciate it today as we are getting dumped with snow...

It has surprised me how many none-car friends have raved about this 2 door Blazer. It's not much to look at at this point with the destressed paint and rust.

I bet Chevy would do well re-releasing a 2-door full-size Blazer. I owned (2) ZR2 S-10 Blazers when I was younger and to this day they were 2 of my favorite SUV's I've owned.

Thanks
Marc

Not really. I did pick up some stock fender flares this weekend that we will add. I always liked the look of those especially on these 2 door Blazers.

I'm just about about done with the 53 Suburban and I should have more time for this one.

In a little late for the build on this one.

Updated wheels look good! I've always been a 2-door Yukon/Tahoe guy, waiting to find the right rig to buy.

Thanks. It's funny how many people have said they love this body style. We picked up some stock wheel flares. We will add those and tackle some of the rust this spring. Maybe even a quick and dirty white paint job.

It has been his daily since we put it back on the rd. We have had to replace a few things but not bad considering it was a $500 heap we dragged home.

Used OE flares. I don't care for the look of any others on this body style. I need to recondition them and fill some screw holes but they were cheap so I don't mind putting a little work into them.

I'm apparently coming way late to this project too. Marc, Good on you for helping your son with his first car/truck. It'll be a bonding experience, yeah and probably be the source of some conflict too, ha ha.

The 18" Silverado wheels are a very nice choice. I can't believe it was a $500 purchase. Seems like a helluva score out here. How is the interior (pics?) and how extensive is the rust? Will you teach your son how to weld and fab repair panels, paint, etc?

Can't wait to see the outcome. I'm sure it'll be like your other projects - DAMN nice!

Thanks Dan....The interior is in pretty decent shape. It is blue in color. No rips, it was just dirty. I'll grab some pics at some point.

Once the weather warms we will probably tackle the rust. Its basically the rockers. He has been driving it pretty much trouble free (just a few little mechanical things) since we got it road worthy.

Yes, I will teach him as much as he wants to learn. He has a great work ethic for a kid his age but he burns out fast working on old rust... ha ha. I learned that when we were trying to get it on the road. Don't get it twisted this is his first daily driver. We wont be making it TOO nice. I also have my youngest son turning 16 this Nov so the search is on for something for him. We already missed out on an Extreme 2wd s-10 Blazer...

Thanks
Marc

We bought my oldest son a very clean 2005 Colorado Z71. My youngest son who turns 16 on the 21st of this month will start driving the Blazer. We are going to add some factory fender flares and touch up the paint and 1/2 ass fix the bad rust spots. He excited to have the Blazer as his fist car.
