1965 Stepside, The LST Challenge

Well, I have been given a challenge to have my old truck at LST this year. My oldest son, Korbin, is giving me his old 5.3 that is being replaced in White Trash. I will be just the engine, and I will need some brackets and other items, but its a start. LST is Feb. 24-26, 2017. I have a hotel confirmed and will be submitting my registration this week. Part of the challenge was that I drive it to the show, but I am much older and wiser now and I got him to agree that I can trailer it down to Conroe and only drive it from the hotel to the show. 25 years ago, I might have been inclined to get it together and drive it but not anymore for doing this in 60 days.

For those that don't know much about my old truck, here is a thread I started in 2010 when I thought life was going to allow me to redo the truck.
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=372424

The plan is to get it running and drivable for LST, that means it will most likely NOT get any exterior body work or paint at this time. I will do some temporary rust patching inside the cab on the floor, but little else in the way of exterior improvements. Not sure on what I will be doing for wheels and tires, but it will most likely be 15" wheels at this point. I have a few options such as stock 5 lug steelies, 5 lug truck/van rallies and a set of Weld wheels that really belong to Owen...

So for the first time since I built my shop last year, my old truck is in and we are moving forward with the build...

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...psx1lai38e.jpg

Korbin and Owen will both be helping me as time allows, but part of the challenge is that Korbin has WT running and going to LST also.

Re: 1965 Stepside, The LST Challenge

Owen helped me a bit this past week and we got some of the parts we are not going to use or that need to be reworked off the truck. On December 30, I got the passenger side front brake mocked up. Yes the rotor needs to be turned and cleaned up and painted again, but the parts all fit and we are good to go on that side. Unfortunatly, I could not finish the driver side since the hose I had was the wrong one, and I am missing the banjo bolt for the caliper. The new hose will be here today and I will get the bolt on my way home after work.
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...psxfsqoh3g.jpg

We also pulled the rear end out since it was just a set up to get it as a roller when we moved a couple of years ago...

Re: 1965 Stepside, The LST Challenge

On Saturday, Dec. 31st, one of our local pick-a-part yards had a All You Can Carry for $75 day. Korbin and I went over and scored a few higher cost items that we both need for our projects. Korbin scored a complete ford 8.8", 3.73 limited slip, disc brake rearend out of a Mercury Mountaineer. It was ALL he could do to carry that thing the required distance without any help.

I scored a complete wiring harness, PCM, Intake, Injectors, and Coils from a 2002 Tahoe, I also got the dished flex plate out it too. From another Suburban, I got the PCM, Intake, and a partial harness (some idiot before me cut it up...) and a bunch of misc bolts, fuses, and relays. I also carried an extra short side axle shaft, u-bolts, and spring plates for Korbin's 8.8.

Here is most of what I carried for $75...minus the intake, flex plate and Korbin's items...
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...psmf9mh2qr.jpg

I think that was not a bad 1/2 day for me...

Re: 1965 Stepside, The LST Challenge

Yesterday after the Cowboys lost, and I did a couple things for the wife and daughter, I spent a bit of time in the shop. Goal was to pull the old 350/TH 350 combo out of the frame and get them separated. I plan to use the TH350 behind the 5.3 and sell the 350 to help fund this project. I got it out and the hoist put away so that Korbin can take it to swap his engines...

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...psnvpudpcf.jpg

That is where I am at as of about 8:00pm last night. I have 53 more days before I leave for LST.

Subbing in & watchin' for updates.

What year rear end housing did you decide on?

Re: 1965 Stepside, The LST Challenge

Well no pictures from last night, but I did get a short time in the shop last night.

The driver side brake line came in yesterday, so I got the rest of the front brakes mocked up. I am still short 2 copper crush washers for the one caliper banjo bolt, but that is just a trip to the parts store to get some. I'll wait till I put the rear brakes together before making a trip to the store. I know that there will be other items I need.

I have not decided on a rear end yet, but it most likely will be a 12 bolt truck rear. I have 2 of them now and one is still all together. I just need to get it into the shop and inspect/clean it up. Maybe tonight...

Re: 1965 Stepside, The LST Challenge

Well, even though it was very cold for East Texas and we had some family functions going on, I did spend some time in the shop this weekend. Not much time, but got my goal accomplished.

I spent a few minutes labeling my partial harness to see what it was really missing. More than I thought, so I moved on to another part of this project.

While trying to decide on which rear end to use, I was also looking at what wheels I had and what my options are to try to make two decisions at once. After looking at my options and discussing with my boys, I decided to swap in a ford 8.8 out of an Explorer (Mercury Mountaineer actually). Part of the reason was that it is 59 3/8" wide WMS to WMS, giving me a little bit narrow rear. The other is that Korbin was not going to get to using it before LST, so we made a deal for me to replace it after LST. Just have to wait for a 1/2 off day, or a All You Can Carry day at the pick a part. I am holding off on letting you guys know what my wheel selection is until after I get the rear end sorted out...

This is the rear as we pulled it out of the Mountaineer (minus the rotors and calipers):
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...psynnmifcb.jpg
Disc Brakes with a mechanical parking brake, 3.73 gears and a limited slip carrier. Not a bad score for $85 out the door.

I needed to get the truck up a bit higher and move my stands to a better spot to make working on the mock up easier. By the end of my shop time, I was in and somewhat centered. I need to make some saddles for it and get it centered up, but I know what is needed and looks like it will work. Only issue I have is that the pinion is not centered on this rear, but I have a couple of ways to get around that issue.

Re: 1965 Stepside, The LST Challenge

After work, I had a workout class I do with my wife so I got home a bit later than normal. The Championship game was just starting, so I fixed some dinner and watched that till halftime. I decided to get some shop time in, so out I went. the goal was to finish mocking up the rear end and see what the tire/wheel choice looked like. Gave 75dually a call to touch base on a wing for him that is near me. Looks like I will be delivering it to him at LST. :metal:

So, I got my goal accomplished. I know in the pictures you can see that I have a scrub line issue, but these are the parts I had and was not sure what drop theses springs have. I thought they were 4" springs, but that does not look to be the case here. I will have to run with this for now, but that is one area that will need to be addressed before it spends a ton of time on the road.

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...psrsiohh9f.jpg
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...psh5ccnutg.jpg

In this picture, the weight of the rear portion of the truck in on springs, via a floor jack under the center section. This is my current ride height with a 28" tall tire. Not all the weight is in the truck yet, so I won't change this till I have the rest of the parts installed.
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...ps0mghkmn3.jpg

All that is left to do the brakes is make a hard line about 12" long to connect to the flex hose on this housing. The truck will have 4 wheel disc brakes for now.

I hope to have the brakes complete and bleed them by the end of this week.

Re: 1965 Stepside, The LST Challenge

Long day yesterday, my turn to cook dinner last night, so after that and clean up, shop time did not start till after 9pm. I am waiting on a few parts to finish up the brakes, so I moved onto the LS harness. I have reworked them before so I got out my tools, my notes, and my partial harness and got busy.

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...pstxwbe2gf.jpg

I started off removing all the wires that are not needed at all for a stand alone harness. Next I removed all the transmission related wires since I am using a TH350 for now, also, that is part of the harness someone before me cut out of the donor vehicle. Here is a shot after I had all the wires removed from the PCM connectors:(sorry for the blurry pics)
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...psldvevagq.jpg

As I went, I used masking tape to keep the stock shape of the harness and to label the transmission wires as I pulled them out. I little extra time to do all of that, but it will be worth it in the end.

1-1/2 hours later I called it a night and ended up with this:
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...psqybgcthp.jpg

This is time consuming work, but not hard. The amount of time is why places charge so much for reworking a stock harness.

44 more days.

Sorry guys, I have been slacking on updates. I have been fighting a sinus cold and just not feeling well to get much done on the truck lately. I did some stuff accomplished so here goes an update.

Got the rest of the LS harness stripped down and labeled to be able to move along on it.
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...pspkw7orf2.jpg

Here is most of the wires that are not needed in a standalone harness.
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...psagpjzx7p.jpg

I started on my engine mount adapter brackets for the idea I want to try on this truck. Started with a CAD drawing and a piece of flat bar cut to length.
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...ps0wgqt2cw.jpg

Drilled the holes for the block mounting bolts. These are the second step to before the final hole size of 13/32" dia.
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...ps0wdywuk0.jpg

Both plates finished and ready for the engine.
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...pslq1nnfvl.jpg

That's where I got on Saturday. Sunday was a bit of Family time and some football. Once the Cowboys lost, I put in some shop time that evening before calling it a night. I'll put that in the next post.

Re: 1965 Stepside, The LST Challenge

Ok, I got some bad news about the engine over the weekend. When they where taking out the cam to swap it into his new engine, it pulled 2 of the cam bearings out and the others are trashed. Well, that's $115 dollars I did not plan for in this build. That set me back some and decided to move over to something else that needs to be done and hopefully I can get the engine repaired in a week or two. :waah:

The firewall had a few spots in it that I could do a quick repair and got them in primer, no pics, completely forgot to take one. I plan to finish up the firewall tonight with a fresh coat of paint in the color I will eventually paint the outside.

I then moved onto the chassis wiring coming out of the plugs on the firewall. These have been in storage since the last time I worked on the truck. I found them and pulled them out. OMG, they are in bad shape! :banghead:

Here is the worst one, this is from the connector that is on the driver side next to the master cylinder, the lower plug. This one has wires for the headlights, the horn, the power wire to the fuseblock under the dash, and the voltage regulator.
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...pslq1nnfvl.jpg

The plug is in REALLY BAD shape. I did some internet searching and found what looks to be the correct connector and the correct terminals. These are old Packard Series 56 connectors and terminals. I found this one on Terminals & Connectors website. Took some digging on multiple sites to find the part number and someone who had them. The part number for the plastic connector is Delphi 2973903. The terminals for the wires on available on a number of sites, but I order the ones I needed from the same place.

Here are a couple more pictures...I plan to replace all the wires and loom them for a clean look and update some of the circuits to match up better for the LS swap. I will also add relays for the headlights while I am at it.

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...psf1pgnxqj.jpg
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...pshavf66aq.jpg

Here is the female plug on the firewall, its the lower 6 pin part in this picture. the upper 3 pin part is for the park/turn signal lights in the hood. I still have to find that harness and/or the male plug to match it so I can make a new harness.

Re: 1965 Stepside, The LST Challenge

OK, here is where I need some help from you guys.

This connector is ok, but I would like to replace it since I am updating the under hood wiring. This is the 6 cavity connector that is kinda in the middle of the firewall above the passenger side of the engine. In the cove of the firewall to the side of the heater box. I need to find the correct Packard Male Connector for this harness. The sites I have looked at DO NOT show a 6 cavity connector shaped like this one. This connector has the wires for the starter, the distributor, the temp sender, and oil pressure sender.
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...psgihj8lzl.jpg
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...psjsccidft.jpg
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...psa5eor92w.jpg

I know that I have seen it somewhere in the past, but I have no idea where that was. Delphi's site does not show on that looks like it at all. If it all comes down to it, I can reuse this one, but I really want to get a new one.

Any ideas?

Re: 1965 Stepside, The LST Challenge

Well did more searching yesterday on the net, I found the connector I need in a kit that is sold by American Autowire. I put in an order, hope to have it by the end of the week. Don't really need all of the parts, but I will replace the grommet at least when remake the engine harness.

Grommet & Connector Kit - 6 wire - #50064 - $14.00
http://www.americanautowire.com/shop...tor-kit-6-wire

With that issue resolved and still waiting on other parts and the engine, I decided the firewall needs color besides black. Since this is a low buck build, I found a rattle can color that is real close to the OE light blue. For this exercise I decided to go with it and get some color on there.

Before:

During:
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...psxfr7lxvh.jpg

After:
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...pszkzjx2zr.jpg

There are a few light spots and a run or two that need attention, but I ran out of paint. I'll pick up a can on the way home and get that all fixed and one more coat on tonight before the 24 hour recoat window closes.

Re: 1965 Stepside, The LST Challenge

Yesterday I worked on a way to mount the ALDL and the MIL for the swap in the interior. I decided to make up a bracket to hold both and mount them on the bottom of the dash.

Start with a sketch and then a AutoCAD drawing:
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...psfnmiq3ee.jpg

The make the part:
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...pss1i1lpjo.jpg

The hole on the left side is for the check engine light, should be here today. After making this one, I don't really like it. I have another simpler version that I will make if I have time before LST.

Later in the evening after dinner, back out to the shop I went to get started on the next issue I can work on. How to mount the seat...

I am using a rear seat from a '77 crew cab that was in decent shape I got for free. The bottom seat frame is wider than the '65 seat frame so I need to modify the OE brackets/adjuster to work with the newer seat frame. Luckily the rear mounts are the same width and space the mounts the correct spacing to mount on the floor. BUT the angle is all wrong. I will post pictures of what I have and what I think I'm going to do in my next post.

This weekend was more about my daughter then the truck. She had her first Gymnastics meet of the season and is competing at a new level this year. She has a good meet and ended up placing 4th in the all around for her age group. Very proud of her and the hard work she puts in and keeps straight A's in school too!

I did get some time in the shop, I was able to get the seat brackets modified and the seat into the truck to make sure it all worked. Here are a couple of pics of the brackets and the mods I had to do:
Stock unmodified bracket is on the left.
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...pspthj1tuj.jpg
Both ready to go back on the seat.
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...pslalqepiv.jpg

Seat is back out to have room to work on the floor and under the dash for the wiring issues. I hope to get the factory heater mounted back in the dash and the wiring done before putting the seat back in place.

Re: 1965 Stepside, The LST Challenge

Worked on the floor and the steering column a bit last night. Forgot to take my phone with me into the shop, so no pictures of the work I did get done.

The column seemed loose, so I worked on that. I got both bearings out and they are dirty but not damaged. I will get them cleaned up and regrease them to reinstall tonight. The pot joint seal on the intermediate shaft is shot and I don't have time to source a replacement. I will maybe make something to work at this time and get it all cleaned up.

By some dumb luck, I actually still have the original steering wheel and most of the horn button parts. The only part I cannot find right now is the oem horn button. I pretty sure I have it, just not found the right box yet. I can't believe that I kept it all these years...

There are things that I did as a teenager when I first got this truck that I am not happy about now, but you learn from your mistakes and grow from those. I'll snap some pics tonight of last nights stuff and post them along with tonight's work.

Re: 1965 Stepside, The LST Challenge

Thanks for the replies. The color in person is much lighter than the rails. For now due to time, it will stay that way. If time permits, I will redo the rails in a satin black.

Last night I was able to get the column back together and figured out what the looseness was from. In my rush to get the truck moved to storage when we moved a few years ago, I did not put the turn signal cancelling cam in before putting on the steering wheel. That part helps put a load on the upper bearing...:banghead:

Here is what was done from the other day:
Pulled the old firewall pad that was in sad shape and replace part behind fuse panel with some reflective insulation for now.
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...psnkg3a8vt.jpg
Wire wheeled the floor on the passenger side to see what's up over there:
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...pskumk6n7h.jpg

Last night I got the steering column back together and mounted up. Put the wheel on with the cancelling cam behind it and its nice and firm now. Just need to find all the parts to make the horn work. I hope I can find my OE button, cause getting a repo would look out of place at this time...
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...pss3bgevm0.jpg

Here is a closer look at the passenger floor area, good amount of holes there...
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...psmq54wlfx.jpg

Getting that tar paper stuff off the floor is a PIA! I been scrapping and the loose stuff pops off, but there are parts that are stuck with some type of black goo that is nearly impossible to get off. I had the bright idea as I was calling it a night to pour some Toluene on those areas. It immediately made the stuff start to soften. So, I took some shop towels and soaked them and left them on top of the areas that where giving the most trouble. We will see tonight how much it helps...

Since I don't really want to (or have time to) do any rust repair on this area right now, How do you guys suggest I cover this up so I don't have any holes in the floor? I thought about getting some peel and seal from Lowe's and putting it over the area that I will eventually cut out and replace...

Sounds like a decent temporary solution.

Re: 1965 Stepside, The LST Challenge

The last two nights was all about the floor of the cab. I still had a bunch of that factory sound deadener that I wanted to remove. So I soaked it with Toluene and that worked pretty well to soften it up and get some of it removed. I ran out the night before, so I had to get more. Stopped at Home Depot to get some. They do not carry it, so instead I tried Xylene which they had in quarts and gallons. I got a quart and a 3" wide chisel edge scrapper they had in the flooring department.

Got home and tried it out. I think it might have even worked a bit better. Got all the thick stuff off and them poured out a little more and scrubbed with a 3M stripping pad. Got it all off down to the factory paint. Went over the hole floor in front of the seat area with a wire cup wheel in my grinder. Looks pretty good for a 52 year old floor with a little rust...

What I needed to remove: That thick brown stuff...
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...psmq54wlfx.jpg

In the middle of the process:
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...ps65p36jr9.jpg

After the wire wheel:
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...psdlwuvov3.jpg
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...psjm1evffz.jpg

I wish I had not scrapped thru the OE paint in places, but I am happy to get that stuff off. I'm not gonna paint or coat the floor now, just don't have the time before LST. I will go back to it someday...

Re: 1965 Stepside, The LST Challenge

After getting the floor cleaned up, I needed to do some rust repair to the floor so I can drive it on the street without getting wet or cold from the holes in the floor...

So, since I don't have the time right now to do a proper patch and replace job, I thought of other ways to take care of the problem. Here is my solution. Korbin has challenged me to not be so detailed and do it the full blown expensive way (which I would normally do because of my OCD ways) but instead do it more the way of Matt Hapel's Sloppy Mechanics style...

So, here it is, Sloppy Style Rust Repair:

After:

To cover your bare metal fast, AZ sells a rust-oleum etching primer that works great! I use it a lot on bare repaired surfaces. best part, dry in like 10 min.

I think I made good progress this weekend. I got the last brake line made up and installed, got the M/C painted, bench bled, and mounted to the firewall and brake pedal. System is now ready to bleed.

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...psz2tpdhfz.jpg
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...psovzi2l0l.jpg

Also got the heater box mounted to the firewall, the plug for the rear light harness install, and the gas pedal linkage at the firewall install.
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...pswo3z0kz6.jpg

Must have installed the gas pedal linkage after I took that picture...sorry about that...

Added a little reflective insulation to the inside of the firewall. Just need to finish up the wiring for the heater and the hoses to the dash vents.

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...ps1u4byjvu.jpg
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...pspj2tl135.jpg

Finished the day by putting the seat back in the cab. Looks like I need to lower it a bit, but will live with it for now. I can still squeeze my fat a$$ between the seat and steering wheel.

Re: 1965 Stepside, The LST Challenge

Progress has been slow the last few days. Mostly just wiring stuff for the truck and not much else.

I got the wires for the engine harness under the dash repaired for now. Not really the best way, but it will work good for now until the time comes to replace the wires all the way back to the fuse block. Sorry about the bad picture, best I could get it under the dash.

I made a new wire to add to the plug for the main harness next to the Master Cylinder. This will give me a 12V+ Key hot wire in the main harness that runs along the inner fender up to the core support. This will be for the PCM turn on, I will mount the PCM on that side. One end to the Fuse Block to a Key Hot terminal, the other end into an open cavity in the plug on the firewall.

For the connector to that plug, I made up all new wires for those circuits. This is crimped (not my best work), but before I soldered them to the terminal.

Here is how it looks connected to the firewall plug. The wires are: RED - 12V+ Battery to the fuse block; Lt. Green - High Beam Circuit; Tan - Low Beam Circuit; Black - Horn Signal from Horn Button to Relay; Black/White Stripe - Gen Light on Dash, connects to terminal on Alternator.

Lastly, I started on the engine harness wires. The wires are: Lt Green - Temperature Sensor; Dk Green - Temperature Sensor (I have the dash lights, not gauges); Dk BLue - Oil Pressure Sensor; Purple - Starter

Well another week has past and still no engine for this project. I continued to work on parts of the truck that don't require the engine and trans to be available.

I worked on getting the front clip mocked up and started the front wiring and PCM placement. I used some Riv-Nuts to mount the PCM and to anchor the wire harness to the inner fenderwells. I was able to borrow a pneumatic riv-nut tool from work, and boy is that that way to put them in! Here are some pics of what has been done. The last one is how I walked out of the shop last night.

This week I will get the brakes bleed, the taillights mounted, the tailgate mounted, mount the fuel tank and get the wheels mounted up. If I do one item a night that will get me to next weekend...

Re: 1965 Stepside, The LST Challenge

Well last night was a no go on shop time. By the time I finally got home to stay for awhile it was after 10pm. I'm old and I need my sleep.

I did get a few parts ordered during my lunch break. I was going to use a battery mount I had from an old build, but I did not like the way it looked, so I ordered stock replacement parts from Classic Parts.

The aluminum radiator I had at one time, was MIA. After searching the WHOLE shop, Korbin and I believe that I sold it at the Pate Swap Meet last year. Like I said I'm old...So, I got on ebay and found one for a 60-62 C10 that will work and mount the way I want. It was $179 + free shipping or Best Offer. I made an offer that was accepted and it should be on its way here.
Here is the one I bought:
3 ROW ALL ALUMINUM RADIATOR 60 61 62 CHEVY TRUCK

Hope it works out the way it does in my head...

I've been keeping an eye on this build as I was planning on an LS swap in mine before too long. My buddy surprised me with the motor last weekend so now I'm getting ready for a full tilt swap very soon. You've got a great thread going, can't wait to see when it's done!

LOL, I can't wait either. This version was to get it running/driving for LST. That is now 16 days away...

My plans for this week went straight out the window on Monday night.

I finally got out to the shop at about 9 something last night. Since some of my wiring parts I have been waiting on came in yesterday, I worked on the front main harness.

Here is what I got done:
Mounted a power distribution block to the core support. This will serve as a main feed of Battery Power.
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...psvvrj0a8e.jpg

When the truck is all together, it is covered with a panel, it is easily removed for access to the block.
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...psnzm1z74h.jpg

On the inside of the core support I mounted a 4 place terminal block. The four wires feeding it are: Pink - 12V Key On; Black - Horn Signal from Column; Tan - Low Beam Headlights from Switch; Green - High Beam Headlights from Switch.
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...psj3azlf9i.jpg

From that block, I will run each circuit as needed to a relay for the lights and horn, the 12V Key power turns on the relay below that turns on the PCM.

Another view of that area:

In that last picture, you can see that I branched out the 12ga Red wire that provides Battery Power to the trucks fuse block. You can see the pick wire connected to the terminal strip that feeds the fuse/relay block below it.

Here you can see that I branched out the GEN light feed wire, this will go to the alternator, you can also see how I am attaching the harness to the inner fender.

Not sure what I will work on tonight, I made a list to keep track of what needs to be done. I guess I will pick something off of that to complete and get marked off...

Re: 1965 Stepside, The LST Challenge

Got two items crossed off my list. I hooked up some taillights along with a license plate bracket. I don't like these lights, but do to time and money and the fact that I had these brand new for a trailer, I used them for now.

I also installed a tailgate that was reclaimed from Sunburn after its unfortunate end. Now part of that project will live on for now on my truck. I will sport the red paint for now since exterior cosmetics are being avoided for LST. The tailgate has link supports from Mar-K that support it like a fleetside tailgate in the down position. I just need to come up with a better solution for keeping it shut while in the up position.

I also working on the PCM wiring that goes into the cab. I extended the Tach, MIL, and Serial Data wires and put them in loom to run into the cab. I started on the wires for the Fuel Pump Relay Control and the Fan 1 & 2 wires, but did not have enough wire to finish those. I will get what I need today and finish up that section tonight.

Feels like no body is watching, at least not commenting, but I will still keep posting.

I finished up the 2 wires that needed extending and got them in braided loom. Planned out the routing, but waiting on some parts that should show up today to finish that section.

Moved on to mounting the gas tank. I am using the tank from a 2004 1500HD and will use the pump and the mounting straps. I cut down the filler neck hose, but I still need to work on that part of the install. I have it where I can live with it for now so that I can meet my goal of LST. Did not have enough of the correct hardware to finish up the mounting, but the fab part is done. I had a couple of extra short bed cross braces that I could use on the underside of the floor to improve the strength of the mounts. The cool thing is the 2 holes for the bolts for the bed trips lined up with where I needed to drill holes for the fuel tank straps. I going to use 5/16" diameter hardware to mount it all, so I did not even have to make the holes larger in the cross braces. I will get a picture underneath once its all mounted up.
