1972 C30 Ramp Truck

Picked This up on Friday Aug 8. Good running truck. Factory A/C. Has rust in cab corners, floorboard, and inner roof right below the cab lights.. guessing the lights leaked and water stood there. Seats in it are from a 70 Camaro/Trans am as far as i can tell. Its got air bags under the rear to help carry a load as well as an onboard water tank that i have not gotten time to really look at but currently does not work.

Ive always liked the look of old ramp trucks. I figured this would be a functional driver as i tinker with it and try and finish my frame off k20 build. Someday i would like to slap some paint on it and make it a real nice truck.

The first thing i did was get rid of the ramps sticking straight up in the back. cant stand it. They have an underbed storage spot but for some reason the last owner had them mounted like that. They dont even sit straight with eachother.

Next i plan to remove the buckets for a factory bench like it came with. I also have a tach dash to install as well.

In the center console there was paperwork from 2001 where an owner 2-3 people ago had a bunch of work done to it. New engine, rebuild rear end, rebuilt trans, new tires, new exhaust ect all done in Indianapolis Indiana. so im guessing he was preping the truck to make the long trec from Indiana to Washington. Still has the original protectoplate! This truck runs and drives like new. Just a little rough around the edges but that can all be fixed.

Not really. Pulled the buckets for a bench with a cheap Walmart cover for now. Pulled up all the carpet and diamond tuck panels that covered the entire inside minus roof. Just been driving it. Really runs good. Its loaded with one of or sandrails and pulling a trailer with my Honda pilot buggy for a ride tomorrow. Only have about 10 miles to haul em but still looks cool. I'll snap some pics tomorrow

Edit: forgot I also just picked up a bunch of ac parts from a guy local to me for free. Ac compressor and brackets, condenser most of the stuff I'm missing. So eventually it will all get used on the truck. Gotta fix the rust issues first. Would greatly benefit from a new floor pan and thats not really something that incan do with the cab still on.

I guess I did get the bumper changed out too. Just hadn't posted that. Looks better with the chrome bumper even if it is slightly tweaked ;)

Yeah it is a great place. The river is about 100 yd behind me taking the picture of the chrome bumper with white blazer in background. House is just an old ranch house but the location is killer! Plus only 3 miles from the parts store haha.

Removed and sold the camaro seats in it. Got a good chunk o change for tbem. Have a stock bench with a Walmart cover until I get the k20 done and buy a cover to do it right.

Thinking about this truck, I think it would be awesome to bag it to where the ramp body would sit on the ground to load cars. I've never dealt with lowered trucks so i don't even know if its possible. Need to do some research.. But that's far down the road!

Finally got the big ugly mirrors off. Didn't want to go with little sport mirrors because it is still a 1 ton, but wanted to get rid of the large mirrors that I hated to try and see around. I ended up with a set of 72 mirrors like the pair on my k20. I think she looks much better.

Also took a couple minutes to rub it out real quick with some old rubbing compound I had. Looks much better than it did. I think the rf fender has been painted later than the rest of the truck as it was shiny before I started lol.

And finally found rear brake parts. Friend has a 78 c30 with a 14 bolt I'm going to get all the brake parts from. So hopefully soon I'll be able to actually stop this beast efficiently!

The picture was after I loaded my golf cart to take to storage. Its got air bags, stereo with sub, underglow, headliner visors ect. When I broke my back in 03 my dad built it for me to get in and tool around. Don't use it much anymore since I've got too many trucks to play with

Someday I hope to have this looking that good!

Not much has changed on it except fighting the distributor. Completely rebuilt the HEI distributor so we should be good to go now!

There is big plans for the future. I have a mild built 454 that I acquired from a friend that will be filling up the engine bay a bit better than this puney 350 ;). Also made a deal on a much much cleaner cab to swap onto the frame. When the ground dries outni need to go rescue it before it returns to the earth! Sitting on a pallet for years right on the dirt. Pallet is almost completely sunk :S

Other than helping out around the ranch there hasn't been much going on since I'm busy keeping my k20 build moving forward!

I know it has been over a year since the last post in this thread, but just incase it gets checked, I was wondering if you know the wheelbase of your ramp truck and the length of the bed off the top of your head? I am in the beginning stages of building myself one, and currently have a '69 GMC 930 with the 157' wheelbase, just wondering if it is going to be long enough.

Thanks in advance!

Ill measure the wheelbase next time im out at the ranch. It does seem like it is a bit shorter than most other ramp trucks. the length of the bed is exactly long enough to haul a regular cab long bed pickup.

Bump! I came to the forum looking for info on ramp trucks as I am looking at one in a couple weeks. Owner does not know wheelbase, and truck is not stored at his house, so I'll have to measure it when I get to the storage lot where he keeps it. Any chance you ever got to measure your wheelbase and/or deck length? I'd like to know if I can haul a truck with 8 foot bed like yours can.
