Leaf springs replace vs rebuild.
My truck always had a 1" lean to the passenger side. To which I assumed to be the fact the stepside was missing its wood, and something fell down on the frame. It was level last August when I started driving the truck.
Well as I am beginning work on the suspension. I found out my spring has sagged. So I have 2 choices rebuild or replace. Anyone rebuilt sagged springs for them to sag quickly again? |
Re: Leaf springs replace vs rebuild.
A good spring shop will make them just like new or better. I have older springs rebuilt all the time

Re: Leaf springs replace vs rebuild.
Thanks.
I got lucky my cousin still has Suburban springs I can have. So I will just have to remove some springs to adjust the best I can |
Re: Leaf springs replace vs rebuild.
Look for cracks and rust, those are the bad part, most of the time.
Up here in the rust-belt, they will get so crusty as to swell around the U-bolts. Then the leaves spread open and it just gets worse. If you separate a pack like that, they generally just fall apart. No rebuilding those, because they will be pitted and thinner than they should be. If they look good and are just sagging, a rebuild can save them. |
Re: Leaf springs replace vs rebuild.
How does one rebuild a metal plate?
I get re-arching them, but what else is there to do? |
