EFI fuel plumbing

I am setting up my fuel system on my truck and I am running the MSD Atomic EFI with the external pump. The tank is frame mounted and only has top fittings. I know the in-line pumps are supposed to be gravity fed but has anyone ever heard of using a dry lift pump to feed the EFI pump? I have a Holley Blue pump to use but not sure if that'd work.

I did it years ago on my '72 with a TPI swap. I ran the fuel return into the inlet of the pump. It worked fine. Although, with the unbaffled in cab tank, the pump would howl if the fuel level got to low

So you ran the pump on the return side? That's different from how I was thinking of doing it, but quite interesting.
