1998 S10 with issues.

My buddy has a 98 S10 that isn't running. He said it was something about the belts.

He just wants it gone. 500 bucks. I've ridden in this truck a bunch of times (he drives like a maniac) It's a clean extended cab but it's the small motor. Not a 4.3. But for that price I'm thinking about it. He doesn't seem to know what is wrong with it and I don't know. So I'm kicking it around. My plate is full already with projects. But I can't pass up a deal. What do you think??

It's got a blown head gasket. 124K on the odometer. I'm going to drag it home and probably never fix it.

For $500, you got a deal :). Here, if I had it, I would convert it over to an SBC and drive it.

That's how I get most of my cars, cheap and broken. Last one I got is a 99 Ranger with a blown head gasket for $200. I fixed it and have been using it as a yard truck, but since my 26 year old son said he was finally going to get a license I told him he can have it when he does.

Maybe one of these days but I have too many projects right now. I'll just fix the head gasket issue for now.

I'll get some pic's when I pick it up. As usual I didn't have my phone.

Is that typical for that engine and mileage ???

I've got a buddy with a 2000 with a bad engine. He's been fighting engine codes and "distributor" issues for a while and now they're saying the crankshaft is bad. He said it had got hot at one time but no coolant leak. I'm wondering if coolant got into the oil and ruined the bearings.

I'm not sure if it's got a blown head gasket. That's just what my buddy that I bought it off of told me and he's not the brightest bulb. The oil doesn't have any water in it. I just didn't have time to mess with it. It's at my other place and my wife was giving me the "I want to go' look. But it doesn't look bad. Still needs a battery. Crackhead's messed up the hood to steal the battery. The door was unlocked and they could have just popped the hood. (Duh) But all in all not bad for $500. Especially if I can get it started. It just needs a hood and a battery and the tires are looking a little old.

Pictures as promised. When I first got it. Safely tucked away on my property now. It looks worse than it actually is. It's filthy. The hood is popped in the pic. That make it look worse. But I think I can touch up the desert sunburned clearcoat. And lose the camper shell. Maybe make a couple bucks on that. And my buddy munched the license plate when he towed it. :dohh:

I really like this truck. I think that I can bring it back. I remember when my buddy bought it. It was a clean truck. But he doesn't take care of his stuff.
