Did the emblems exist on 1968 C10 fenders factory installed ? For example, 8 396 for 8 cylinder 396cid engine.

Nope. Started that in 69. Do you have a factory big block 68?

Re: 8 cylinder Engine size emblem on 1968 C10 fender ?

Back in 1992 or 1993, my father opened a scrap yard up in Alabama and the second vehicle he got in happened to be a 1968 long bed C10 with factory 396..he said an old farmer brought it and a '70 Sedan De Ville in...

ANYWAY, this truck did have 396 emblems directly over the front marker lights -- to this day I have never seen any emblems like them -- They were the same style emblems as the "283", "327", and "409" tall chrome emblems that were placed above the crossed-flags emblem you'd see on '64 - '67 Impalas.

I managed to talk my father into having it towed to the house because it was so rare -- he obliged, but a few years later while I was away at school, some guy spotted it in the backyard and gave him $600 for it. It kills me because '68 is my favorite year.

The truck was light blue with a white top, and although rough..was complete. Anyway, few will believe me especially since I have no pictures of it, but I swear it's true! I tried searching for this emblem on the net & cannot see where it even existed. Oh well, it was what it was.

Hey Kwmech,

Nope, it wasn't that type of emblem. It was the style that hopefully shows below. Funny how the repop boyz make a "572", "6.2" etc. yet I cannot even find a google pic of this mystery "396" emblem.

Each emblem was mounted about an inch above each front marker light on that old truck. It stinks that I don't even have a picture of the truck because it sounds so far-fetched without pics.

I still cannot believe he gave that truck away for $600. it had factory A/C, AM Radio, gauges (no tach), THM400 and full wheelcovers :(

Sadly, none of those are "the one". I have done this same Google search over and over...so tired of looking at 1968 396 Truck pics by now, ha-ha. I still want a '68 396 C-10 but figure I'll never find an original one. My best guess is that the truck my father bought may have been an early production model & that possibly the emblem die broke or something. It just doesn't make any sense. Thanks for responding!

I've got a box full of emblems and I'll rummage through it later and see if I come up with anything.

Like mentioned above, GM never badged trucks until 69. Doesn't mean people did not use what was available in the day, from impalas, chevelles, corvettes, ect

Those emblems were owner installed. A very common thing that owners might do. I think that's a 69-70 SS 396 fender emblem you saw. Maybe 71/72, too.

As far as the 69-72 truck emblems go, they came on trucks with optional engines, both 6cyl and 8cyl. There were 292 emblems with only that on them, while the 350, 396, and 400 V8 engines also had the 8. No engine badges on 67/68 Chevy trucks and 67-72 GMCs never used any at all
