Beware of doing business with Coy wheels

C10 owners and group members be AWARE of doing any business with Coy Wheels also goes by the name Old School Wheels he will scam you for you money and not send you your wheels, he claims he was given false credit card info therefore he won't send your wheels which is not true, because money has been withdrawn for over three weeks now, and his customer service sucks, and his name is Dave Coy

Re: Beware of doing business with Coy wheels

What is your CC company doing about it? Have you reported non delivery of goods? See if he's on FB or similar and confront him there. Worked for me with one company. Don't be uber nasty just state the facts and get him to come clean.

Re: Beware of doing business with Coy wheels

I felt compelled to comment on this as it seems there are mixed reviews on this company!
I know several people that have ordered from Coy's without issue, I've met Dave at a couple of shows, he is a very active vendor at a lot of car shows and seemed to be legit. I however ordered a set of wheels from him for recently sold 66 C10, the truck was unaltered besides being lowered, he was made well aware that the truck was lowered. I told him I wanted to make certain there was no issue with wheels or tires rubbing! He suggested a wheel size and tire size, I went with his suggestion and when they arrived they rubbed like crazy, actually ruined a set of tires in 5 miles, we even cut the fender lips and rerolled them, and they still rubbed! I called them 5 times and was given an excuse each time why he couldn't come to the phone, I was promised each time that he would call me right back, to this day I haven't heard a word from them!

His customer service does suck! When I placed the order as described above it was just a few months after ordering a set from Detroit Steel wheels, those guys are a pleasure to deal with!

Re: Beware of doing business with Coy wheels

Coys has been known to send the wheel backspacing they have in stock, vs what you actually ordered.
Never depend on any wheel company for wheel sizes or backspacing.
Get these numbers figured out yourself.

No way.
Too many variables and too many opinions on how the wheel sets in the fenderwll. Backspacing is as much personal preference as anything else.
I like my wheels to tuck a certain amount. Others may want them flush with the sheetmetal. Others might want them to stick out.
Same with tire sizes.
Your choice is all personal opinion..

Totally agree. This is definitely one thing where the recommendation should only be used as a starting point for your own measurements. There's absolutely no way for whoever you are talking to on the phone to know exactly what you need for your truck. Even between trucks that have the same setups there is variation.

Aren't you agreeing with me? They send what they have not what you ordered or in my case need?????
So what would it matter if I spend hours measuring if they are just going to send whats in stock vs what I need? LOL

I AM agreeing with you.
That's why I'll never by from Coys Wheels.
But you still need to have your own measurements.
No matter what wheel company you buy from.
And you need to check those numbers right out of the box when you get them.
Once you mount them. You own them.

I had a buddy years ago, that bought some Billet Specialties wheels with sizes told to him by a friend. They were 1" off on the back spacing. Expensive mistake.
Since then we always measure for our own wheels.

Sorry you had to cut and roll your fender lips for no reason.

Anytime we are building and modifying any vehicle we measure 10 times and order once, but this being a stock vehicle that has only been lowered, and the vendor claiming to be a C10 expert who attends many of the truck shows and pushes the wheels in the truck market I did make the mistake of believing him when he was insistent and confident that "this size wheel, this backspace and this size tire is what you need, we do it all the time" so my fault for believing him......but any reputable vendor would have the decency to call back and try to make the situation right!

I'm just curious, is there any way your rear end was changed during the life of the truck? I know between '69 and '70 GM widened the rear by 1.5" and some members have been surprised to find that what they thought was an all stock truck actually had the wider rear unknowingly installed at some point.

The numbers came back correct, we measured the width compared to a friends truck and it was the same width....I am leaning towards your comment, that he sent what he had in stock rather than what would work!

That's very possible if that's Coys MO. If that's the case, did he actually give you the specs of the setup he promised would work that you can compare to what you actually ended up with? I wonder if there are any other members that could chime in with the specs on their recommended setups.

Re: Beware of doing business with Coy wheels

The problem with Coys wheels,... they don't address backspacing like the big companies.
All the high dollar wheel companies that custom build your wheels,... place the entire center section of the wheel, into the wheel hoop,... per the dimensions that you give them when you order.
This way you can get almost any BS that you want.

Coys and most of the cheaper wheel companies, usually offer specific wheel backspaces.
This is because the wheels are built with a really thick center hub.
This hub can be machined off to give a select few backspaces.
Usually 1-3 choices.

The people that get quick service and exactly what they want are the ones that place their order soon after a shipment arrive from a China.
The ones that wait forever or get the wrong backspacing,... are the ones that order when Coys is out of stock or currently waiting on that boat from China to arrive.

Re: Beware of doing business with Coy wheels

With all the wheel choices out there why would anyone want to deal with the hassles to get a set of Coys ? High price , terrible service , it's not like their "new" or special anymore . Their to the point of overdone already . Unless you just have to be able to say " I've got Coys on it " ?

Coy's are notorious for piss-poor customer service. It's well known across the internet forums yet folks still choose to do business with them. I don't get it.

Re: Beware of doing business with Coy wheels

It really is a shame they conduct business that way....Seems it happened to more than just me!
Just a few months before buying from Coys I ordered a set from Detroit Steel/Mobsteel......the experience was night and day difference! Detroit/Mobsteel really had their ducks in a row and over delivered on service and quality, I should have used them instead of Coy's for the second set but I didn't want to wait.....Next time I will be happy to wait for quality and honesty!

I'm going though this same thing. Ordered wheels over a month ago and I got my rear wheels delivered within 10 days but still waiting on my fronts called coys a number of times and wouldn't give me the correct tracking number or if they are shipped. What to do?

Re: Beware of doing business with Coy wheels

I've done business with Coy's in the past, never a problem. Not this time however. Ordered a set of 20" Rallys back in December with Toyos and caps. Waited over 6 weeks just to receive the wrong wheels and tires. Fought with Dave Coy for over 2 weeks, had to get my Credit Card company involved, in which I was refunded the purchase price because he couldn't produce an invoice or tracking number. Promised to send an RMA for the items, no follow thru. Once he realized that the Credit Card company took his money back, he decided to try and work with me by sending bogus UPS return labels and then fraudulently billed my card again, which now has triggered security by my credit card company. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY!

Re: Beware of doing business with Coy wheels

Ow boys, boys, boys I got a story to tell you about this company I can’t right now but when I get back home from work Friday I’ll type yall a nice story up about this company and their s***y customer service / returning calls. In short though I’ve been waiting on two wheels I bought at a show two yes two years ago! The two wheels were suppose to be new brand new and still to this day I still haven’t got but one of the new wheels from them lol Regardless like it’s been said stay away from Coys people, bad bad bad dealings, horrible reputation for bad things apparently.

Edit update as promised as of 4/27/18... ok so long story short I buy two coy wheels from a friend on here awesome guy to deal with early 2016, I still try to keep in touch with him when I can on here . Anyhow after buying the first two (for my fronts), I then see Coys up at the rod run that same year April 2016 and paid for two more wheels (for the rear) in black that day $8** dollars worth for two new wheels, knockoffs, and luv nuts sent to me, the main guy randy promised me ow yeah will take care of you I’ll call around see if I can find u some faster and get them shipped out to ya. Well the deadline finally comes and guess what no rear wheels after numerous calls after the deadline and me getting angry many times he finally sends, get this two loaners (so excuse my language but seriously I got pics of the junk f’kn used scratched up etc wheels) until he can get me my new ones so I can ride on the loaners he tells me ( I’m like wtf seriously I don’t think so) Now what kind of ****ty company does even think of something like that? Anyhow This came straight from the main man and then his son too back and forth so who does that but u know what I say fine ok (trucks in the garage I’m doing stuff to it anyhow project wise I can wait) and I guess trying to still be nice about the whole thing I short but patiently wait again and guess what a year goes by and after numerous calls, promises, and nothing I finally get one new wheel sent to me after numerous calls, promises throughout the next year and I send one of the loaners back to him as agreed on the phone and after that more calls, promises guess what still to this day I still have one loaner (used) wheel and one new wheel lol and as a update I just texted him the other day just this last week and he said he would call me back he was driving but guess what nothing ....so long story short people please please DO NOT DEAL WITH COY WHEELS no matter how nice and awesome the wheels seem to look cause guess what unless ur getting a custom set milled out they all more than likely like someone said earlier come from China like the Coys! So moral of the story I should have listened to the others with bad customer service, etc about Coys and so on but I learned for myself the hard way.....

Sorry to dig this up..but. I was thinking of going with Coys for 20" smoothies as their wheels are aluminum and lighter I am assuming than Detroit Steelies.

Coy's says 38lbs and Detroit are 50lbs, anybody running Detroits?..are they really heavy?

Input please.
