driver power door lock
working on a 85 K5 and trying to get the power door locks to work. The passenger works as it should but the driver doesn't i have checked power at the plug going into the actuator and seems that i dont have power there. i have looked at all the connections and everything is together.
Anything else i should be looking at? |

Re: driver power door lock
my memory is not that good but years ago i had a power lock problem and remember the power comes from a relay or some sort of box under the dash. I think it is a negative driven box. I may have given details in one of my threads a Long time ago.

my thread on 9/23/20 has a picture of the relay you may want to check. I dont know how to put the link up on this thread.

Agreed, If the left side is going up and down then the relay is good as a whole,
You need to be sure to check the following: * Is the switch good ... try it on the passenger side to be sure * Is there power to the switch ... use a test light or multimeter to check for voltage, One wire is hot the other goes up and the other goes down i believer these all lead from the relay (Orange/Black should be your hot) * Could you have a broken wire somewhere between the relay and the switch. I understand that the tube that carries the wire from the cab to the door will sometimes get the wires in a bind and they will break or reduce current to the switch ... * Is the actuator good? I ended up replacing both actuators and door switches to get mine working after I got the relay to ground better as mine was only clicking and a couple of good bumps with the back of a screwdriver and some contact cleaner spraying as much on the sealing edges as possible. The relay has to have a good ground, but since your passenger side is working it appears this is good . I am also attaching a wiring schematic diagram that helped me trace out my wires and understand the wiring. If you have a hard time reading this send me a PM and I can e-mail you the file. Hope this helps ! |

Re: driver power door lock
Looks like some clean up is in order ...
it looks like you are missing a set of wires coming out of the door. The window Switch should have the 5 wires going to it. The ones burned look like they go to the harness plug You should have three wires on a harness going to the lock switch, Orange/Blk, lt Bluie, Blk/Wht Then you should have two wires going into the Window motor - Blk/Wht & Blue Then you should have two wires going into the lock actuator - Tan and Gray. Not sure what the two wires that are cut unless they are the Tan and Gray that go to the door actuator. These appear to be in the wiring loom . Let me know if you need some pictures as my door panels are off while I am working on the restoration. |
Re: driver power door lock
The tan and grey were the ones that go to the actuator. it doesn't seem I'm missing any wires as the window and door locks now work. Well the lock doesn't work yet as it seems the actuator is bad because I now have power at the actuator connection.
