Re: custom subwoofer boxes

There are a few companies that sell the shallow sub woofers and the shallow boxes, I measured some a while back at best buy i want to say. They will fit if you remove the seat. That is what I was thinking of going with.

Here's mine. I just wanted one small 10" sub cuz I'm at the age where I don't need to "bump".....just wanted quality sound. In the truck, my amp is mounted to the enclosure as well and you will have to use a shallow design sub. Even with the tank removed, there's not alot of space to work with and you will be limited to your choices of equipment.

SactoJim, That is a nice box. Is your tank still behind the seat?

P.S. Looks like the truck isnt so bad either

SactoJim,

That looks pretty sweet. I'd like to see it after it is installed. How will it mount in the truck?

Re: custom subwoofer boxes

You could try Bazookas also. I don't know what diameter the enclosure is but it might fit at the bottom where it is the roomiest (is that even a word?). Anyway, let us know what you come up with.

I have also been tossing around the idea with my truck.. Then i found 3 small leaks in my stock tank so its getting tossed out of the truck and going to be putting in the speakers when i get the extra money.. I dont really think you would need 2 12's in that small of a space.. Lol we have 2 12's in my Girls scion and it is more then what i would ever need... i think i am just going to go with one 10'' like sacto

Hey Jim, when you get that box in there will you take some more pics so we can see it installed? I was curious on how you were going to mount it to the back of the cab. It is a very nice enclosure by the looks of it!!!! ;)

Here's some pics of it installed. Right now the thing fits nice and tight and nothing is holding it in and it's not going anywhere. I have to make a finishing piece that runs along the top (ribbed area) and use that to tie in the speaker box.

The amp in an old Soundstream Reference 405 amp...back when they made real quality products and I've had it for a long time as well as the door speakers.

The doors already had gigantic holes hacked from PO, so I fabbed up a piece of flat metal to mount the components into. I also built an aluminum shield that is installed in the door that keeps water away from speakers. I'm just about done with some lower door panels to cover the speakers.

....anyway works and sounds just fine to me.

Re: custom subwoofer boxes

I bought 2 10" Rockford Fosgates Shallow subs and then covered some plywood with some vinyl to hold everything in place. Mounted an amp in between. Haven't heard how it sounds yet because I just got the wiring done...well, almost done.

Re: custom subwoofer boxes

I had two 8"s under my seat powered by a way underpowered amp wasn't half bad. Doesn't take much to bump hard in these trucks because the cabs are so tiny. I put a cheapy JL 10" in my buddies 82 toytoa 4wd and it is INSANE! SO much bass for a little cab. If I had the bucks I'd spend it on one of JL's thin 12"s

Re: custom subwoofer boxes

Here was my cheap install two 8"s and two 6 coaxials crossed over at like 650 Hz. It cost me practically nil and wasn't bad but it wasn't great either but hey I got bored on a friday and said what they hay might as well.

Re: custom subwoofer boxes

How much extra room do you get behing the seat when you take the tank out?

russj67 09-17-2009 09:40 PM

Re: custom subwoofer boxes

About 6" at the bottom and it gets down to around 4" around 3/4 of the way up. Not a whole lot of room, buts its something.

Fastom, I plan on doing something resembling your setup once I move my tank, I bet with those rear components it really helps out the soundstage. Having no rear fill sucks...nice work!

Here's mine. I really like 8's in this small cab because they don't rattle it apart, just produce nice full bass from the music. I have 2 Polk 8's along with Polk 5.25 components in the dash and Polk 6x9's in the doors, powered by a Kenwood head unit(5.25's crossed at 100hz) and MB Quart DSC480(6x9's full range and 8's crossed at 100hz). It was a damn tight fit under the seat but I can't imagine needing anymore bump or spl for my 34year old ears...until I move my gas tank and rebuild it with 2 more 8's and a bigger box where the current tank is!;)

Trying 2 box designs

Settled on this one, as my 250lb butt still never touched it during excursion even with the old seat springs

Wouldn't even know there was a badass setup in here, until your butt starts vibrating and your ears bleed...

Have 2 singles up in the dash above the radio. I have 2 amps. 100 watt and a 400 watt.
