335's on a '69 stepside...
4 Attachment(s)
Well now that eveybody and their dog has a Pro-Touring this, or Pro-Touring that, the idea that I had 10 years ago when I got this truck and had no money is now beyond passe'! I've made a little progress lately and thought I'd share - the tires are BFG KDW 335/30/18's and the wheels are 18x12's with 7.5" backspace and a 1/2" spacer on each side. The rear is the original '69 12 bolt with Moser guts. I'm just glad to have a little sheetmetal hung on the frame (eventhough it's just the bed), so I thought I'd share. Hopefully when the cab and Big Block/TREMEC TKO-500 are all set down on the frame it will bring everything down a little more, otherwise I'm gonna have to throw in some lowering blocks to get the stance right.

looks nice. What is the plan for inside of the bed? (from the owner of just another pro-touring truck :) )

Re: 335's on a '69 stepside...
Thanks Ackattack (I am subscribed to your build thread, btw) I have a set of fleetside wheeltubs that I've previousely mocked up (hence the cut-outs in the bed), and will reuse the polished stainless strips the were in the bed with new wood from Mar-K.

Here are the tubs mocked up in the bed before I had it blasted and primed. I may section them a few inches, since the tires don't take up that much room, but I haven't decided yet. It also depends on how the wood works out with where the tubs bolt down to he bed.

Re: 335's on a '69 stepside...
Hey id like to see how this is coming along. Not enough threads about step sides and dropped on wide back wheels. I was going to go with 295/35/18 on stock tubs with 5.03inches of backpacking and dont know whatt I would get into.
Let me know what you have come up with. Thank You Ulysses |

Yeah, I have some new pics on my profile page in my albums. I have since ordered some Schott 19x12's for the back and will be running a 345/30 tire. Wheels should be in next Thursday, and I'll be putting the rear fenders on then as well. I'll post up pics as soon as I get it all together.
Dang, I just looked at the date from when I originally posted... I've been messing with this junkpile for over 5 years all together now. What a beat down! Sperger72 - Can you post a link to your build thread? |

Adam,
Very nice. I am trying to decide on wheels, thinking Boze lateral G wheels polished. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=672183 Not sure how to link my build. It is under my 67 truck |

What mirrors are you running?

Re: 335's on a '69 stepside...
I got those lil dudes from streetrod hq https://www.streetrodhq.com/dept/Mir...Exterior+.html
scroll on down, they have a lot to choose from. They were a lot of work to finish out nice and you can't see anything out of them, but they look cool!:smoke:. I probably could've put them in a different spot, but to me the style of them flowed the best with the body line I put them on. Boze makes really nice stuff - the Boze 'Clutch' was my other wheel choice before I settled on the Schott wheels. |

apparently great minds think alike.. We have the same tailgate too, Taibo. The main difference being yours is actually on your truck and functioning :uhmk:
I still have to snug down the wheel tub on the pass. side |

Re: 335's on a '69 stepside...
Looks good. My plan is to run an 11/12" wheels out back with a 335/345. Looks killer on the steppers. I also plan to narrow the rear a bit to get a nice dish.

My truck IS a heap! It's the '67 with the blue cab and tailgate. Helmbeck wrote the estimate that totaled it in '04.

Re: 335's on a '69 stepside...
I am also doing a stepside. You seem to have researched tires . I want to get as close to the look yours has. I have 18x8 wheels.my truck is basically stock. What tires can i get to even get close to the look of yours?
|
Re: 335's on a '69 stepside...
18x8? maybe a 255? On the 18x8's I had in front I ran a 245/40/18. Most, if not all tire manufacturers have a recommended wheel width for a particular tire size, you might start there. I did a lot of research and measuring/figuring to see what size tire )height & width) would work with the drop on my truck and I still didn't nail it on the first try.
Are you planning on lowering your truck? If so, how much? What are you wanting to do with the truck? I'm pretty sure I pm'd you the info on the tires already. |
