Dip Stick & Sending Unit
 

Two quick questions:
1) What do I need for a dip stick tube on a 69 C10 with a 350 engine? This one (in it when I bought the truck) is loose.
2) Can I install the temperature sensor in the spot on the left head? It's for an Intellitronix dash. Intake ports are taken by a heater hose and the temperature sending unit for the sniper efi. Plug in right head has the socket hole rounded out.

Now if I can figure out what to do on the dip stick.

1. Red Loctite
2. Replace the tube.

It's fairly typical as the tube is a press fit but only one time.
Clean out the hole with some lacquer thinner and the tube with a rag.
You can get the small bottles or sometimes the little squeeze tubes of Loctite.
Don't worry it will hold.

If the tube is not broken off you can squeeze it a little or rough it up a bit & use the lock tight with out getting a new one.

I installed the sending unit in the front plug and it is way to close to the headers (1/2").
I talked to Intellintronix and asked if the sending unit could be installed in a 90 or a tee and they said yes it could.
Would I be better off using a tee for the sending unit and the heater hose or a 90 and use the front plug location?
I know its a preference, but trying to avoid any future issues before I go looking for brass fittings.

You can move the sender to the intake manifold next to the t-stat if all else fails. I've had to that in the past with headers

Back to dealing with this on the temperature sending unit. I tried installing with a 90 degree fitting in the head and two things concern me- 1) it sits between two header tubes and I'm concerned the heater temperature will not give the correct engine temperature reading and 2) constant circulation into the 90 degree fitting.

I see only two other choices for the sending unit- add a spacer with plug fittings under the thermostat housing then either run the heater hose to it- letting the sending unit go in the intake or sending unit in the spacer.

Ant thoughts or other ideas?

A 3rd choice is available but is a bit unorthodox. Build a "pad" on the front water crossover of the intake manifold.. An experienced welding/machine shop can do this.. Drill a proper size hole in the pad and tap it for the temp sensor.

Mine had Sanderson shorty headers when I got it. The driver-side dipstick was always a hassle. The tube was bent to make room for the headers. I had to remove the tube and dipstick every time I wanted to measure the oil. I eventually got new Dorman ram's-horn manifolds (straight down, large exit, '62 'vette) and a new dipstick and tube. It works great now. Header still on the passenger side -- next project to replace with ram's-horn.

Talked to Intellitronix and they said this spacer should work, so its on the way.

I know I'm a little late here but I have bought water necks from O'Reilly's with the threaded bung in them for using a guage in the past
