Upper Steering Column Alignment

3 Attachment(s)
I had to install new turn signal canceling return springs in my 1972 GMC C1500. While putting everything back together I'm experiencing some strange gaping as I tighten the three screws that secure the turn signal switch, through the bearing support and into the back of the switch cover. As I tighten the screws the switch cover pulls away from the "bowl" unevenly.

I've included an exploded view and two photos showing what it looks like when the screws are slack (switch cover flush with bowl) and when they are fully seated (gap between the switch cover and the bowl ranging from 1/4" to 1/8". Is this normal????

Thanks for your help.

Gabe
